It did particularly well in terms of child occupant safety.

The European New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP), has given the all-new 2023 Ford Ranger a 5-star safety rating.

The next-gen Ford Ranger

This particular Ranger model is the European-spec version which largely shares the same body design, chassis components, and some driver-assistive technologies as the Philippine-spec version. The marks that the Ford Ranger received from Euro NCAP are also valid for the Volkswagen Amarok pickup truck, with which it shares its platform.

For adult occupant safety, it managed to get 84 percent out of a possible hundred points. It then managed to get 90 percent for child occupant safety, 74 percent for vulnerable road user safety, and 84 percent for the safety assist category.

Euro NCAP also reported that the Ranger did well on the frontal crash protection test, as it was equipped with frontal airbags, belt pretensioner system, belt load limiter system, and knee airbag working as intended.

It recieved high marks overall from Euro NCAP

As for side crash protection though, it was noted that Ford’s pickup truck could do better if its rear portion was provided with side chest airbags, and if a side pelvis airbag was made available for the driver, front passenger, and rear cabin occupants.

Then again, it did swimmingly well during the side barrier test. However, Euro NCAP did note that rib compression was detected on the crash test dummies during the side pole impact test.

It was also noted that the Ranger’s autonomous emergency braking was able to detect cyclists and pedestrians during testing, with “collisions avoided in most cases.” The only factors that reportedly prevented the Ranger from getting a higher score were the front edges of its bonnet.

Also commended with high marks were the Ranger’s lane-keep assist system. According to the report, it was able to “gently correct the vehicle’s path if it is drifting out of lane.” Moreover, it was also able to “intervene in some more critical situations.”

If you’re considering the Ford Ranger as your next family car due to its excellent levels of safety, then be aware that it comes in eight different trims for the Philippine market. The most affordable is the XLS MT which is priced at Php 1,198,000, while the Wildtrak 4x4 AT top-spec trim can be had for Php 1,885,000.
