Ford Performance, the high-performance department of the Ford Motor Company, is once again dipping its toes deep into motorsport. Specifically, the said company is gearing up to compete in the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) 2024 season, as well as at the 24 Hours of Daytona.

But with what car?
Well, the blue oval’s performance division is currently cooking up the all-new Mustang GT3 race car. It even released a teaser with a photo of the aforementioned car. And while it is wrapped up, the well-known silhouette of the Mustang is unmistakable. The rear also bears a huge wing, which is typical of GT3 race cars.
Under the hood of this GT3-spec Mustang is a Ford 5.0-liter Coyote-based V8 engine. This mill is built by M-Sport, a British racing team and motorsport engineering company. Ford has been working together with M-Sport for 25 years in the World Rally Championships.
Multimatic Motorsports was also brought into the Ford GT3 team. This company in turn will develop the rest of the Mustang GT3 race cars, as well as the consumer version of the Mustang GT3.
Of note, this upcoming variant of the pony car model is a “track day” car. It will have some of the mechanical bits of the actual Ford Mustang GT3 race cars, and so it is highly unlikely that it will be road legal.

Aside from the 5.0-liter V8 made by M-Sport, the Mustang GT3 that will compete in IMSA 2024 will feature a rear-mounted transaxle gearbox, carbon fiber body panels, a bespoke front and rear suspension, among others.
To sum it up, Ford and Multimatic will be making the Mustang GT3 and its consumer version, while M-Sport will be developing its engines. So, are you excited to see what this Mustang race car can do?
