A car won’t be complete without a badge, right?

Life is full of surprises. So much so that an unthinkable scenario might turn into reality. This is probably what Ford is experiencing recently as it faces an issue with parts shortage.

Ford's Blue Oval badge is currently having supply issues

Ford said that it is encountering a shortage of its Blue Oval badge, a vehicle component that’s as important as any other parts. A Ford spokesman confirmed the said issue with CNBC citing that vehicle nameplates are also facing a shortage.

CNBC added that the Blue Oval badge and Ford vehicle nameplates shortage was first reported by the Wall Street Journal. The shortage is reportedly caused by Ford’s Michigan-based supplier Tribar Technologies.

Tribar Technologies had been forced to limit its operations in August due to an issue with Michigan authority. The said supplier is said to have “discharged industrial chemicals into a local sewer system.”

The limited production resulted in lesser badge output for Ford’s Blue Oval emblem and vehicle nameplates. This scenario has affected around 40,000 to 45,000 Ford vehicles in the United States, which is said to include F-Series trucks and SUVs. Ford did not disclose the exact models that have been affected by the parts shortage.

2023 Ford Everest

Does this mean that Ford vehicles in the Philippines will have the same issue? Well, the probability of it happening is low since Ford PH sourced most of its models in Thailand and China. For instance, the next-gen Everest and Ranger are sourced or manufactured in Thailand.

Ford’s shortage for its Blue Oval badge is now part of the supply chain crisis that has hit the automotive industry. Locally, Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) has addressed the public about the late arrival or late deliveries of the all-new HR-V.

HCPI is appealing to its clients for “more understanding” regarding the delayed arrival of the all-new HR-V. It has even stated that the arrival schedule for the five-seater HR-V crossover vehicle “remains uncertain.”

The reason for such delay is caused by the global parts shortage that has also been hampering other car brands.

Last June 2022, Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation (TMP) released a similar appeal. TMP has also asked for the public’s understanding due to the delayed deliveries of brand-new units. It has also cited that parts shortage is among the main reasons for the delay.
