The safety of the motorists is always the priority of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH). This is why the government agency decided to temporarily close the EDSA Timog flyover southbound which is inevitably causing heavy traffic in the area.
The EDSA Timog flyover is closed due to alarming cracks and potholes
In a report by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), the EDSA Timog flyover has large potholes and cracks that can be unsettling for road users, especially those who use motorcycles. Some pieces of the flyover fell down to the underpass, making the issue alarming.
The DPWH immediately started its repair work to avoid any possible incidents. Based on the initial assessment of the agency, the repair works include the replacement of the flyover’s deck slab. As alternative routes, motorists are advised to use the service road or Scout Borromeo St., Eugenio Lopez Drive, and other Mabuhay lanes.
Motorists are advised to take alternate routes to avoid the heavy traffic
Since the closure, slow-moving traffic has been monitored in the area. This is being experienced by motorists amid the MMDA’s report that fewer cars are traversing EDSA this month. The agency continued by saying that some vehicle owners take public transportation instead of using their personal cars.
The agency noted that the repair works for the EDSA Timog flyover southbound will run for a period of one week. In the meantime, only public utility buses are allowed to traverse the flyover as they are permitted to use the left lane (bus lane). With this, the majority of Filipino commuters won’t experience the inconvenience of the closure.
In related news, MMDA announced that it will temporarily close Roxas Boulevard and other roads in the city of Manila on June 19. This will be implemented to give way to the Rock ‘n’ Roll Series Marathon, an event that combines the fun of running and music. The closure times are from 3:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., and later again from 3:00 p.m. onwards.
