Chery has officially partnered with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). These partnerships with the aforementioned UN entities were announced at the 2023 Chery International User Summit.
Chery executives together with representatives from UNICEF
For the agreement with UNICEF, the carmaker donated $ 6,000,000 or Php 340,680,000 at current exchange rates. This contribution will support UNICEF's global and country-led education programs in China, Mexico, South Africa, and Turkey.
Chery’s partnership with the global child welfare agency will span two years and it is a continuation of the brand’s commitment to practicing company social responsibility.
In China, for instance, it has already established the “21st Century Oriental Son Scholarship” to support marginalized students. It has also established the “Xinqijun Hope Primary School” together with Chery car owners.
The brand also launched similar programs globally, like a 5-year collaboration with the Chilean UC team to benefit youth football schools, as well as donating necessary materials to Ecuador when it experienced a 7.8 magnitude earthquake back in 2016. The brand also extended a helping hand to marginalized children in South Africa and donated aid to sick kids in Kazakhstan and Iraq.
As it rises in prominence as an automotive brand, Chery says that it will continue to work together with organizations like UNICEF to provide aid to those who need it. This, in turn, will help Chery in deeply developing its localization strategy and becoming a socially responsible international brand.
Chery has penned an MOU with the IUCN
Chery’s memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the IUCN meanwhile, highlights the company’s eagerness to practice sustainable development and its efforts to preserve natural environments.
According to the Chinese carmaker, its work with IUCN will come in two stages. The first will span from 2023 to 2024 where it will gather key knowledge and build its capacity for “Nature-based Solutions (NbS) - a term coined by the IUCN referring to the sustainable use of natural resources and nature conservation. The second phase from 2025 to 2028 meanwhile, will involve the direct implementation of NbS projects within IUCN-covered regions.
According to the brand, its MOU with the IUCN will help the company become a global leader in “global green civilization construction.” It will essentially enable the carmaker to help contribute to keeping the planet clean and green for future generations. This initiative goes hand-in-hand with the brand's push for electric-powered models like the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro PHEV, and Tiggo 5X Pro Hybrid, among others.
