Cash lanes at the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) will soon be gone as it will fully shift into implementing electronic toll payments. This means that motorists using the CCLEX should have an RFID installed on their vehicles.
The full transition into having a cashless toll transaction will take effect by October 1, 2022. Cebu Cordova Link Expressway Corporation (CCLEC) explains that the remaining cash lanes at CCLEX will be converted into exclusive RFID lanes. As such, all 10 toll lanes on the said expressway will not be accepting cash payments come October.
The management said that the shift into full cashless toll payment intends to provide motorists with a more efficient expressway experience.
“Our transition to full contactless toll payment is aimed at providing a more efficient expressway experience to our road users and afford them ease of travel,” said CCLEC President & General Manager Allan G. Alfon.
With the impending shift to electronic toll transaction, CCLEC is urging motorists who still doesn’t have an RFID to have their cars installed with one. Motorists can schedule their RFID installation by simply going to cclex.com.ph, and click on the Register option. The said option can be seen on the topmost portion of the CCLEX website.
One can also opt to do a walk-in registration at the Customer Service Centers located on both sides near the CCLEX Toll Plaza, and offsite installation stations at Anjo World and Landers Superstore.
Meanwhile, the toll management also reminded motorists who already have RFID to reload their accounts online through the MPT DriveHub, which can be downloaded for free in Apple App Store and in Google Play Store.
Of note, the CCLEC started to partially convert some of CCLEX’s toll booths to RFID-enabled lanes last July 1, 2022.
The Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) is an 8.5-km toll bridge that links Cebu City to Mactan Island through the municipality of Cordova. It is artistically designed that features a lighted cross on the two pylons to pay homage to Cebu’s Catholic roots.
It also offers better access to the Mactan-Cebu International Airport by reducing travel time to around 40 minutes. The CCLEX is said to accommodate at least 50,000 vehicles daily, which is seen to help improve traffic flow in the existing Marcelo Fernan Bridge and the Mandaue-Mactan Bridge.
