This is now the longest bridge in the Philippines.

The Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) project connecting Cebu City and the town of Cordova in Mactan island has been officially opened, with President Rodrigo Duterte inaugurating the four-lane bridge in a ceremony held on April 27, 2022.

Of note, the 8.9-kilometer cable-stayed bridge is one of the largest road infrastructure projects in the Philippines in recent years. It stretches over the Mactan channel, and it is currently the longest bridge in the Philippines as of 2022.

The said bridge also has a height clearance of 52 meters, thus allowing large sea vessels to still pass through under the bridge. Furthermore, it was also designed to be able to accommodate up to 50,000 vehicles every day.

The opening of the CCLEX alson brings other advantages to Cebuanos. First off, this is expected to help ease the traffic that’s already plaguing the other thoroughfares leading to Mactan.

Second, a study conducted by the Center for Social Research and Education Department of the University of San Carlos indicates that the CCLEX can have a positive socio-economic impact for the entirety of the region. Mactan after all, is a popular hot spot for tourism and other businesses, apart from the fact that the Mactan-Cebu airport is also situated there.

Sub-400cc (125cc and above) motorcycles are also allowed to use CCLEX

While already inaugurated, the CCLEX is yet to be opened to the public, and a date for this will be announced later by Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC). For those unaware, the MPTC manages this particular expressway.

For now though, the management of the CCLEX is encouraging folks who plan on using the new expressway to get their RFID tags ahead of time. Meanwhile, cash payments for toll fee will still be accepted during the first few days of its operation.

Are you excited to see and maybe even drive over the newly opened Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway?
