BMW joins the long-running Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as two of its models will be showcased in the upcoming spy thriller film Black Widow, based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name.
BMW meets Marvel Studios’ Black Widow
The Munich-based automaker has entered into a collaboration with Marvel Studios, which produced the film. As part of the deal, both the X3 compact crossover and the 2 Series Gran Coupé figure heavily in the movie’s stunt sequences, with behind-the-scenes footage shown on BMW’s YouTube channel.
BMW vehicles are no stranger to the silver screen, having been used extensively on big-budget Hollywood blockbusters in the past. The carmaker now makes its MCU debut with Black Widow, starring Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff in an adrenaline-packed story that will have the cars tested extensively to their limits.

“This is the very first time BMW has worked with Marvel Studios and the result is just stunning,” enthused BMW Senior Vice President for Customer and Brand Jens Thiemer. “Having the BMW X3 and the 2 Series Grand Coupé playing key roles in Black Widow is part of our marketing strategy, adding strong emotional value to the communication of these models.”

Both vehicles used in the movie will be showcased at the BMW Welt exhibition in Germany, complete with damage sustained during filming. From June 25 onward, BMW will also treat its customers to the Emotional Virtual Experience (EVE), featuring the X3 M and the 2 Series Grand Coupé in a photorealistic 3D rendering, available at more than 2,000 BMW dealerships and branches worldwide.
“There is no better vehicle to take us on Natasha’s journey as she sorts her past than a BMW,” said The Walt Disney Company’s Senior Vice President of Partnership Marketing Mindy Hamilton. “The X3 and 2 Series Gran Coupé are sleek and agile. Just like Black Widow, and we are so excited for the world to see where we’ve been together in July.”
