Ever wondered as to when car makers can produce a vehicle that can change into multiple colors? Well, that possibility is one step closer to reality with the BMW i Vision Dee, which recently debuted at the 2023 Consumer Technology Association event in Las Vegas, USA.
Introducing The BMW i Vision DEE: The Ultimate Companion | BMW USA
BMW did have a previous demonstration car that was able to switch colors back in 2019. That however, can only change from black to greys. On the other hand, the i Vision Dee is like a chameleon whose body panels can switch into 32 different colors.
This is thanks to E Ink, which was coated all over the i Vision Dee car. Even the wheels are clad in the material, and so the said part can also change colors. Each panel can also be configured individually, and thus one can create interesting color schemes with the push of a button.

As a vehicle, the i Vision Dee then comes in the form of a sedan. It looks strange and ultramodern, but the usual BMW design cues are still there. For that matter, its version of the BMW kidney grille stretches towards the sides of the front fascia and is combined with the front headlamps. Also present on its side is the familiar Hofmeister kink.

Inside the i Vision Dee is a fully digital cockpit with touch-sensitive controls. These are then used to manipulate a sizable heads-up display. Also present is a strange-looking vertical spoke steering wheel.
Apart from how its looks from the inside out, not much details were given about the i Vision Dee. We do know that it is designed as an electric-powered vehicle, but otherwise, no specs were given regarding its powertrain.

We also know that BMW will use the technologies present on the i Vision Dee for its upcoming series of EVs under the Neue Klasse architecture. However, these aren’t expected to roll out until 2025.
