As electric vehicles (EVs) are gaining traction in the automotive market, BMW is making ownership more fun with the AirConsole.
BMW partners with AirConsole to develop in-car games
Airconsole is a gaming platform that will be run on BMW Curved Display infotainment systems of new vehicles starting next year. It aims to provide a fun cabin experience, especially when the car will be parked for some time. Charging for BMW EVs will also be more bearable with the new gaming platform.
“With AirConsole, we will leverage innovative technologies combined with a broad variety of fun and multiplayer games. This will make every waiting situation inside the vehicle, such as charging, an enjoyable moment,” BMW Group Connected Company Development Senior Vice President Stephan Durach.
To start, players will only need a smartphone, which will serve as their game controller. It can be connected by scanning a QR code in the vehicle. The AirConsole technology enables games to be delivered over the air and straight into the infotainment system, offering a wide array of options.
BMW is taking its infotainment system to the next level
Automakers are ramping up their efforts to innovate infotainment systems. One of which is Volvo when it partnered with search engine giant Google to allow YouTube video streaming in its EVs. As for BMW, its entry is accomplished in partnership with AirConsole via the BMW Startup Garage program.
“We are extremely proud to spearhead gaming inside vehicles with BMW and are excited to create new games for in-car entertainment. Our ingenious architecture coupled with the ease of access of our platform will change the way people get entertained in their vehicles,” said Anthony Cliquot, CEO of N-Dream, the company behind the AirConsole brand.
It makes rides more fun
Aside from video games, BMW will start integrating vegan leather interior materials starting also next year. With it, the automaker will reduce emissions in its production by 85 percent. BMW said that the materials will be good-looking and as durable as natural leather.
