The 2023 Toyota Vios is steadily gaining a foothold in the ASEAN region. From its manufacturing base in Thailand, Toyota released the model’s first left-hand drive version in Laos, and now the subcompact sedan arrives in Indonesia.
Underpinning the latest iteration is the automaker’s all-new Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) platform, which gives the Indonesia-spec release dimensions of 4,410mm in length, 1,740mm in width, and 1,480mm in height on a 2,620mm wheelbase. The model is only 15mm shorter than the Thai version.
Another detail about the Indonesian Vios is that only the 1.5-liter Dual-VVTi gasoline engine is offered across the board, packing 105 horsepower and 138 Nm of torque. Note that this is the same power unit found on the current Avanza and Veloz MPVs.
A 7-inch instrument cluster is available on upper trim levels
Shuffling the output to the front wheels is a choice of two gearboxes: a 5-speed manual on the 1.5 E variant and a continuously variable transmission used by the 1.5 G and 1.5 G TSS. Only the CVT is readily available in the meantime, as customers who wish to drive stick have to contend with a lead time of three months.
The top-spec variant comes equipped with Toyota Safety Sense, bringing features such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Pre-collision Warning & Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Departure Warning, and Pedal Misoperation Control.
We hope to hear from TMP regarding news of its arrival soon
Other standard equipment depending on trim level include front and rear parking sensors, 17-inch alloys, and four-wheel disc brakes for the exterior. Customers can expect a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, 9-inch touchscreen infotainment display, automatic climate control, and an electronic parking brake inside the cabin.
Indonesia will be importing the Vios from Thailand, as PT. Toyota Astra Motor’s production facilities are already occupied with manufacturing both the Avanza and Veloz. Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) is still mum on a potential new Vios release in our market, but as the model makes its way to more ASEAN countries, it might not be for long.
