This might sit as the top-spec model.

A few weeks ago, we reported on the early appearance of the Toyota GR 86 at the 2022 Gazoo Racing Festival. This of course, was the first time that the Philippine-spec version was seen in the metal. More recently though, Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has shown via a video teaser posted on Facebook that the anticipated sports car is also coming with an automatic gearbox.

The video shows the interior of the GR 86. One shot focused on the car’s gear labels with the typical automatic tranny markings. At the same time, the shot shows that it is also getting a manual mode. A short sequence of the steering wheel also revealed that the car has paddle shifters.

Other than that, the video shows a close-up shot of the Toyota model’s new digital gauge cluster, a close-up of the car’s LED headlamps, the wheels, the car’s glowing daytime running lamps in the dark, among other interesting shots. Speaking of which, it is also safe to say that the automatic version will sit as the more expensive, top-spec trim.

Of note, the unit that was shown at the GR Festival was a manual version, finished with a pearl white exterior paint. The version shown at the said event also comes with a set of 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin Primacy HP tires

For engines, the upcoming local-spec 2023 Toyota GR86 is also projected to get the 2.4-liter boxer-four that’s already used by the GR86 and Subaru BRZ in other markets. At the most, it can make up to 232 horsepower and 228 horsepower respectively.

Many folks are looking forward to this upcoming coupe

The official launch of the 2023 Toyota GR 86 is yet to happen. That said, the actual prices and complete specs of the Toyota GR 86 for the Philippine market are yet to be revealed by the Japanese marque.
