A total of four engine options will be offered.

Mitsubishi Motors revealed more significant details about the 2023 ASX ahead of its launch, specifically what’s under the hood. It will be offering a wide array of engine options including a plug-in hybrid powertrain, which will be marked as the brand’s first PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle) model in the subcompact sedan market.

The upcoming ASX will get four engine options

For non-hybrid engines, the base model will be powered by a 1.0-liter 3-cylinder turbocharged engine good for 91 horsepower. It will be paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. Next in the range is a 1.3-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine which will be available with two transmissions. The 6-speed manual variant makes 138 horsepower, while the 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) option has 156 horsepower.

Moving to hybrid engines, the Japanese marque will be offering the naturally-aspirated 1.6-liter gasoline engine with two electrified versions. The first one is combined with two electric motors with a 1.3 kWh battery, making a total output of 145 horsepower.

Meanwhile, the other option is paired with PHEV technology which consists of a larger 10.5 kWh battery that can be charged via an external source. This powertrain is capable of generating more power than the non-PHEV hybrid engine at 158 horsepower. No diesel engines have been mentioned in the reveal.

It will be out in metal this year in Europe

The 2023 Mitsubishi ASX will be offered in four variants in the European market. Mitsubishi said that it will unveil the all-new ASX in September this year. Upon its launch, the model will receive its first major update since its debut in 2009.

Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) has discontinued selling the ASX with no further plans of reviving the nameplate as of this writing. MMPC’s latest offering is the 2023 Xpander, which features revamped exterior and interior styling. It comes with a starting price of Php 1,050,000 while the top-spec trim retails at Php 1,180,000.
