Subaru just released a teaser for the upcoming 2022 WRX, this is the new version of the Subaru WRX model. And from the looks of it, the car is getting a subtler look than its predecessor. Other than that, the teaser also shows a car that isn’t drastically different from the older model save for some minute details. Another interesting point is that the Japanese marque used a bright orange color instead of the usual blue at least for this teaser.
Driving enthusiasts and fans of the WRX, in particular, will also be glad to know that the new model is also coming with a manual gearbox. And seeing that it’s prancing around a sandy desert terrain also somewhat confirms its all-wheel-drive and rally credentials. Furthermore, it appears that it will be getting a hand-operated hand brake as well.

As for the engine, reports are saying that the 2022 WRX will be using the FA24 2.4-liter turbocharged flat-four mill. Of note, other Subaru models currently using this engine include the new 2022 Subaru BRZ, 2022 Toyota GR 86, the US-spec Subaru Outback XT, and the Subaru Evoltis.
On some of those models (Outback XT, Evoltis), the engine can produce up to 260 horsepower and 376 Nm of torque. We are sure however that Subaru will find a way to increase that horsepower output specifically for the new WRX.

Regarding actual reveal dates, the new 2022 Subaru WRX was supposed to debut at this year’s New York Motor Show on August 19. But then that event was canceled last week due to the new COVID-19 outbreak. And as of the moment, Subaru is yet to confirm a new schedule for the said car’s debut.
