Its fuel economy improved by up to 6.8%.

Mazda Motor Corporation introduced the refreshed Mazda2 for 2022 alongside a new variant named Sunlit Citrus. The special edition version comes with distinctive features, more notably in the interior. It also received an upgrade in its powertrain that further strengthens its characteristics as an economical subcompact sedan.

Under the hood, diagonal vortex combustion is added to its 1.5-liter SKYACTIV-G engine, resulting in a higher compression ratio from 12:1 to 14:1. This engine improvement offers better environmental performance and improved the model’s fuel consumption rating by up to 6.8 percent.

As a vehicle that competes in the subcompact sedan category, an improvement in fuel efficiency is one of the best areas to develop. Moreover, the Japanese automaker also upgraded the 1.5-liter SKYACTIV-G (high compression gasoline engine)’s engine control program to enhance the Mazda2’s responsiveness and stability.

SKYACTIV-G 1.5 (High Compression)

The SKYACTIV-G 1.5 (high compression) is now capable of generating 114 hp and 149 Nm of torque, an increase of six horsepower and seven Nm of torque over the current version. The refreshed Mazda2 can be equipped with either front-wheel-drive or four-wheel-drive, while a 6-speed automatic transmission is a standard feature in the special edition version.

A distinctive interior available in the Sunlit Citrus edition

Inside, the Mazda2 Sunlit Citrus special edition is fitted with yellow trim on the gray-like suede artificial leather seats, dashboard, and doors to deliver a distinctive look from other variants. With this, the exclusive color scheme creates an indoor space that imagines a trip under the sun.

Tech upgrades have been integrated as well, such as a 360-degree view monitor which is now offered as a standard feature. This provides a wider view of the vehicle’s surroundings, which can be essential in tight parking space situations. Qi wireless charging and wireless Apple CarPlay are now made available as an option.

Exclusive key fob and floor mat

The new 2022 Mazda2 Sunlit Citrus Special Edition is now available in Japan with a starting price of 1,969,000 Japanese Yen (around Php 864,960) for the SKYACTIV-G 1.5 (high compression) 2WD (FF) option. As of this writing, Mazda Philippines hasn’t released an official statement whether it will get the special edition version.
