It has been spotted out in the open clear as day.

According to a Chinese website called Autospy, the current generation model of the Mazda CX-5 will be getting a facelift for the 2022 model year. And as far as the pictures go, it looks like the changes on the said crossover are quite subtle.

For instance, the front end now gets a reshaped grille. The silver trim on the bottom of the grille has lost the pair of pointy bits that extend towards the bottom sides of the headlamps, and the headlamps themselves appear to have new L-shaped graphics.

The bumpers are also different, and they now appear similar to the ones found on the Mazda3. Furthermore, the black-colored foglamp housing as well as the foglamps have disappeared.

There will also be some minor changes on its rear end. The taillights look sharper than the ones on the previous model, and the red-colored reflectors are smaller. The aforementioned parts were also relocated just above the car’s tailpipes.

While exterior shots of the facelifted CX-5 have surfaced, we are still yet to see any pictures of the said car’s interior. As hinted by the Japanese-spec CX-5's 2021 update though, the 2022 facelift pictured in this article might also receive new seats, as well as a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen headunit.

As for the facelifted CX-5's powertrains and its mechanical bits, nothing is hinted at by the leak. Do note however that being an update of the currently available second-gen model, it is highly likely that it will keep using the same set of engines and other mechanical pieces.

Then there’s the fact that the said pictures have surfaced in China. This then begs the question: is this going to be a global Mazda CX-5 model, or is it a China exclusive? For now, we do not yet know.

Do you like how the facelifted CX-5 looks? Or do you think that the exterior design changes are too subtle?
