Honda revealed the in-depth details of the all-new 2022 Honda Civic from the front to the back. Some dislike the new updates saying it’s far from the usual, while some recognized and agree with the brand’s vision for its longest-running nameplate moving forward.
The all-new 2022 Honda Civic
But perhaps the new update on the new 11th-generation model that everyone should like is its new and better fuel economy ratings. The 2022 Honda Civic is offered with two engine options, namely with the 2.0-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine for the LX and Sport variants, and the 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine for the higher-end EX and Touring variants.
According to Honda, both engine options received an increase in fuel consumption per liter thanks to few tweaks in the model’s powertrain. Honda added an idle-stop system as standard, redesigned the catalytic converter, and enhanced the continuously variable transmission (CVT) to improve fuel efficiency. An idle-stop system automatically shuts the engine off if the vehicle is idling to save fuel while running essential cabin components such as the air conditioning system.
Competing in the industry since 1972
Meanwhile, the turbocharged engine available in the EX and Touring variants is designed with a new and more efficient turbo plumbing and has added Variable Timing and lift Electronic Control (VTEC) to the exhaust valves. The transmission on the turbocharged engine also features an improved torque converter performance and adopts revised Step-Shift programming.
In addition, the 2022 Honda Civic now features a user-selectable Sport mode to provide a more spirited and sportier driving experience. Here is the comparison of the changes in fuel economy rating from 2021 to the 2022 model.
