One can say that the Ford EcoSport is now looking way too familiar considering that it hasn’t gone through a lot of design updates over the years. The current generation of the subcompact crossover was first launched in 2012. To note, the latest iteration received its mid-cycle refresh in 2017.
2022 Ford EcoSport facelift
Now, it seems like the American automaker will be addressing that matter by rolling out yet another facelift for the 2022 model. Although the company hasn’t announced the update, spy photos leaked online show the redesigned EcoSport driving on a highway in India without any concealment.
Right off the bat, the new front fascia is instantly noticeable that gives the facelifted model its aggressive or mad look, if you will. A redesigned grille is integrated into the front fascia that gets a chrome surround to highlight its proportions, while the headlights are now closer to the grille.
Moreover, the front fascia now bears inverted L-shaped daytime running lights (DRLs), creating a modern appeal. It is located on the fog lamps close to the newly-designed front lower bumper. With this addition alongside other front fascia updates, one can say that the refreshed EcoSport gets similar design cues as its crossover sibling, the Ford Territory.
New grille design
Not many updates were made on the side and the rear end. The facelifted EcoSport does come with a new set of alloy wheels, a new rear bumper, and new silver trims on each side of the rear window. Just like the previous models, it will still sport a spare tire on its fifth door design for a more SUV finish.
As for the powertrain, the facelifted EcoSport will likely carry over its 1.5-liter gasoline engine that makes 120 hp and 149 Nm of torque. That said, the transmission options should remain the same as well for 2022.
The spy photos don’t reveal a lot of interior updates. But considering that it is now getting tested on the road, then it will be a matter of time before Ford reveals more details regarding the facelifted model.
The second facelift of the second-gen model
Once it is officially launched and makes its way here, one can expect that the refreshed EcoSport will be a good addition to Ford Philippines’ lineup as subcompact crossovers such as the Geely Coolray and Kia Stonic are getting more stylish by the day.
