Ford Escape Philippines Overview

One of America’s favorites, the Ford Escape is a compact crossover. It was developed and released with Mazda. Though it is a compact SUV, its features and capacity are comparable to a larger vehicle. Though big in size, the Ford Escape is easy to maneuver. It can seat 5 people with comfort. Its towing capacity is about 1,600 kg. It has a unibody platform with two trim levels; the XLS and XLT. It is available with 2 WD and AWD. It has a four-wheel-lock system and under the hood is a 3.0L V6 Duratec engine that produces 200 hp. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 kph (62 mph) in just 10 seconds. It has a 4-speed automatic transmission with gears that can be shifted manually. You can choose a 2.0L Zetec engine that produces 10 hp and is more convenient because of lesser fuel consumption compared to its 3.0L counterpart. The Ford Escape is equipped with safety features that include seat belts and knee bolsters. All models get dual front airbags while the Limited trim level gets side airbags. The first XLS variants do not have an ABS. Currently, Ford Philippines offers the Territory crossover as a replacement to the Escape in its lineup.

Launch

In 2000 the first-generation Ford Escape was introduced. Together with the Escape was the development of the Mazda. Ford owns a controlling interest in Mazda. The production of the Escape/Tribute first generation ended later in 2006. For models sold in the Asia-Pacific, the Escape and Tribute had their facelifts in 2006. Both productions were transferred to Ford Lio Ho in Taiwan. Mazda extended its production until 2010 while the Ford continued until 2012.

Exterior

Black roof side rails, grey bumpers, grey body cladding, and black liftgate molding are included on the exterior of a Ford Escape. A Black grille with a black mesh center brings style to the vehicle. Clear lens halogen headlamps with delay and round front fog lamps for the lighting system of the Escape. Power side mirrors, windshield pattern, solar-tinted glass can be found on the doors and liftgate. A 2-speed wiper with washer can be found on the rear portion of the vehicle. 

Interior

The interior of a Ford Escape is upholstered with a premium cloth. It has adjustable head restraints, two map pockets, and a 6-way power driver seat with height adjustments. A storage bin and 2 cup holders are available. Carpeted floor mats are in place. A tilt steering wheel with speed control can be found in the interior as well. Power windows with power locks, keyless entry, perimeter alarm, tire pressure monitoring system, and a securilock passive anti-theft system can keep the vehicle and passengers safe. Air conditioning is also available. AM/FM stereo with disc, CD charger, 4 speakers, MP3, and satellite capable to cover the entertainment system of the vehicle. For lighting, a center dome lamp, map lights, illuminated entry, and rear cargo area light are provided.

Technology & Safety Features

When it comes to the safety features of a Ford Escape, it is equipped with a 4-wheel anti-lock braking system. It has driver and front passenger airbags with the front passenger airbag sensor system. 3-point safety belts with front height adjustments with pre-tensioners to keep passengers safe especially during a collision. Passengers also get 3-point safety belts. Child seat anchors and tethers are available for younger passengers. It also has a belt minder feature and door locks for child safety. Side intrusion door beams are also available.

Platform & Chassis

This 5-door SUV is a compact crossover SUV with a front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout. The Ford Escape came out in 2001 until 2007. In 2004, the Ford Escape (ZB) came out until 2006. Another variant is the Mazda Tribute in 2000 until 2004 and the Mazda Tribute (US) from 2005 to 2007. After this variant, the Mazda Tribute (Australia) came in 2006 until 2008, and lastly, the Ford Escape Hybrid in 2005 until 2007. The Ford Escape is built on a Ford CD2 platform.

Engine & Drivetrain

The Ford Escape runs on a gasoline 1.5-liter engine with 181 hp and 270 Nm torque. Its gearbox is an 8-speed automatic with a turbocharged direct injection fuel system, power sent to the front wheels.
