It was 2001 when the model Ford Escape made its first launched to the automotive industry. This small SUV has a size similar to the crossover we have today, but the American carmaker gave this car a remake.

Once again, Ford reinvented its small SUV from MPV-like shape to a sleeker, lower, and a more like a sporty hatch silhouette.

Unfortunately, though, Ford Philippines opted to drop the Escape out of its lineup. Should it bring back the model here? Let's see what the 2020 Escape can offer just in case.

2020 Ford Escape: Exterior

A low hexagonal grille with slim swept-back headlights and LED strips on the edge are what you will see upfront the 2020 Ford Escape.

The front face is clearly a GT Supercar-inspired, and some other elements from the GT are also featured in the Escape's new design.

The roofline is sloped, which significantly contributes to the sporty aura that the Blue Oval was working on with this new crossover, complementing the lengthened hood and pushed back A-pillars.

The sides of the crossover are sculpted and have a wheel-arch extension and lower-body cladding in the matte-black shade. Moving to the rear part of the car, the windows are slanted back, and the taillights are slim and angular horizontal in shape.

It includes a rotary shift know that's space-saving and situated on the vehicles center console and at touchscreen SYNC 3 infotainment system with a floating tablet-style. The crossover also got a fully digital instrument cluster measuring 12.3 inches.

Moreover, the rear seats can now easily slide to allow passengers of a bigger leg and knee room or to increase the cargo space.

2020 Ford Escape: Engine

When it comes to the engine, Ford made more options for the Escape. Buyers have the option to go for gasoline-powered engine or standard hybrid, but each variant comes with All-Wheel Drive (AWD). Powerplant choices include:

  • 208 hp 2.5-liter Atkinson-cycle plug-in hybrid
  • 198 hp 2.5-liter Atkinson-cycle hybrid
  • 180 hp 1.5-liter EcoBoost
  • 250 hp 2.0-liter EcoBoost

The gasoline engines are mated with an 8-speed SelectShift automatic transmission. The standard hybrid models, on the other hand, are paired to a PowerSplit continuously variable transmission.

Liquid-cooled lithium-ion cells batteries will power the crossover and are mounted below the seats of the second row – freeing a significant space in the cargo area.

Ford Escape has a long list of latest and greatest features just to make sure they are offering the consumers the best possible option there is.

From the updated and sporty look to the new powertrain, it's clear that Ford Escape 2020 will be one of the hottest and premium options among many crossovers in the country, that is if we even have the chance to get it.

As of the moment, this all-new 2020 Ford Escape 2020 is not yet in Ford Philippines' lineup. It’s too early to tell if we're going to have this crossover in the Philippine roads, but only time can tell.

One of America’s favorites, the Ford Escape is a compact crossover. It was developed and released with Mazda. Though it is a compact SUV, its features and capacity are comparable to a larger vehicle. Though big in size, the Ford Escape is easy to maneuver. It can seat 5 people with comfort. Its towing capacity is about 1,600 kg. It has a unibody platform with two trim levels; the XLS and XLT. It is available with 2 WD and AWD. It has a four-wheel-lock system and under the hood is a 3.0L V6 Duratec engine that produces 200 hp. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 kph (62 mph) in just 10 seconds. It has a 4-speed automatic transmission with gears that can be shifted manually. You can choose a 2.0L Zetec engine that produces 10 hp and is more convenient because of lesser fuel consumption compared to its 3.0L counterpart. The Ford Escape is equipped with safety features that include seat belts and knee bolsters. All models get dual front airbags while the Limited trim level gets side airbags. The first XLS variants do not have an ABS. Currently, Ford Philippines offers the Territory crossover as a replacement to the Escape in its lineup.
