2014 Toyota Wigo 1.0 G AT Philippines: Overview

Toyota Wigo 1.0 G AT is said to be an affordable car for price conscious buyers

When Toyota Wigo 1.0 G AT came to the market, it stirred up a major controversy in car review sites about whether it was really a great vehicle or it simply grabbed public attention as a Toyota's much-expected brand-new model for half price of a new Corolla.

2014 Toyota Wigo 1.0 G AT Philippines: Eye-catching exterior

The 2014 Toyota Wigo 1.0 G AT closely resembles the Indonesian-made Avanza. Its appearance embraces minimalism in its design language yet contains eye-catching and intelligent features. The exterior is decorated with chrome side moldings and door handles.

With aerodynamics in its design, the Wigo rear seats are compacted with the trunk at the back. Although an under-bumper air dam helps clean the aero up, this still needs to be greatly improved in the future. The car's boxy shape is completed nicely with 14-inch alloy wheels and a rear spoiler.

2014 Toyota Wigo 1.0 G AT Philippines: Tedious Interior

Toyota Wigo 1.0 G AT’s interior space is quite tedious, being decorated with plastics and fabrics originating mainly from Indonesia

The trunk is quite small but still offers enough room to store some shopping bags

Toyota Wigo 1.0 G AT’s interior space is quite tedious, being decorated with plastics and fabrics originating mainly from Indonesia. These features are price-based rather than quality-based since such Indonesia-made products are affordable.

Toyota Wigo 1.0 G AT offers three cupholders, though, there is a distinct lack of storage space. Despite its small size, Toyota Wigo 1.0 G AT gives lots of large front and rear legroom for passengers.

Thin seat cushions and seat backs add more space to the interior. The trunk is quite small but still offers enough room to store some shopping bags. The rear seats can't be folded flat but can be put down to provide extra space for the goods.

2014 Toyota Wigo 1.0 G AT Philippines: Accessories

There are USB/AUX connection points available in the glovebox

2014 Toyota Wigo 1.0 G AT has become the cheapest car holding a touchscreen head unit in the segment. Touch response is a bit fiddly and sound quality from the two-speaker system is not as good as drivers would like it to be.

Apart from USB/AUX connection points available in the glovebox, Toyota Wigo 1.0 G AT falls short in many aspects. If drivers want keyless entry or navigation, they have to pay an additional charge for installation.

Toyota Wigo 2014 offers dual airbags, though, safety standards NCAP has yet to be applied to the car.

Toyota Wigo 2014 review Philippines: Engine & Performance

While insulation is minimal, the 175/65 R14 GT Champiro Eco-G tires aren't too noisy, and provide good tracking on the highway

The 1KR-FE records an output of 67 horses. The car has the good acceleration off the line. The more modern four-speed ATs is well within its capability for attaining a speed of 40kph and 80kph.

City consumption is nothing more 8-10km/L while highway figures hover around an 18km/L at an average speed of 80kph. Drivers will have to maintain a speed of 60kph for desirable consumption of 20km/L with this gearbox.

The handling is not designed for racing purposes. The electric power steering is numb and has relatively great weight.

The 2014 Toyota Wigo 1.0 G AT generally offers steady driving. However, under full load, the Wigo doesn't perform any better than other small cars. Great visibility created by big glass and mirrors makes the car easy to ply the country’s central business district and capture the street views.

The 175/65 R14 GT Champiro Eco-G tires show poor insulation yet run well on the highway.

Toyota Wigo 2014 review Philippines: Verdict

The Wigo looks a lot like the similarly Indonesian-made Avanza

The Toyota Wigo 1.0 AT can be a choice for customers who weigh between value and price. Buyers would not go for the Wigo if they are looking for a complete refinement of engine-transmission combination which they can find in the Mitsubishi Mirage. But they can enjoy the Wigo's utility and space at a lower price.
