We’ve said it time and time again, subcompact crossovers are one of the popular vehicles in the Philippines nowadays. There’s the recent influx of Chinese branded crossovers that comes with attractive price tags. In response, the Korean brands namely Hyundai and Kia introduced their own entrants to this highly competitive segment.
For Kia, there’s the youthful-looking 2021 Kia Stonic. Hyundai then followed up with the more serious-looking "mini-Palisade,” the 2021 Hyundai Venue. So which is better in terms of specs? For this comparison though, we’ll be comparing the Hyundai Venue GL AT against the top-of-the-line Kia Stonic EX AT since their prices are pretty close.

2. 2021 Hyundai Venue vs Kia Stonic: Exterior
For dimensions, the Hyundai Venue is 4,040 mm long, 1,770 mm wide, and 1,565 mm high. The Hyundai made crossover also has a ground clearance of 170 mm and a wheelbase length of 2,520 mm.
In comparison, the Kia Stonic measures 4,100 mm long, 1,735 mm wide, and 1,532 mm high. It also has a ground clearance of 185 mm and a wheelbase length of 2,570 mm.
To sum it up, the Kia Stonic has a longer overall length, a longer wheelbase, and more ground clearance. The Hyundai Venue, on the other hand, is taller and wider. Also, the Kia Stonic has a curb weight of 1,117 kg, while the Hyundai Venue is a fair bit heavier at 1,232 kg.

Moving over to exterior features, both the Venue GL and Stonic EX are equipped with halogen headlamps and LED taillights. The Kia branded crossover, however, comes with a larger set of 16-inch alloy wheels, while the Venue has a smaller 15-inch set.
The 2021 Kia Stonic also comes with roof rails and front fog lights. The Venue lacks the aforementioned, but it does have side repeaters which the Stonic lacks.

3. 2021 Hyundai Venue vs Kia Stonic: Interior
When it comes to interiors, both the Venue and the Stonic can comfortably fit in five people and have well-arranged dashboards. The Stonic’s dash however looks more angular, while the Venue’s features rounder shapes.
A case in point is the Stonic’s flat-bottomed steering wheel. The Venue, on the other hand, has a more traditional round steering wheel. In terms of cargo space, the Venue has a bit more default trunk capacity at 355-liters, while the Stonic has 352-liters.
Features that are similar between the Venue GL and Stonic EX include a manually adjustable driver’s seat with height adjustment, automatic climate controls, a predominantly dark cabin, and fabric clad seats. The Venue does have better steering wheel adjustability since its tilt and telescopic adjustable. Compare that to the Stonic’s wheel, which can only be adjusted via tilt.

Which has a better-looking interior? The Venue (left), or the Stonic (right)?
Being a top variant, the Stonic EX comes with cruise control, which the Venue GL lacks. Both, however, do have a push to start button and power windows. The Venue GL does have power-folding side mirrors, which is unavailable on the Stonic EX.
For onboard entertainment, both the Venue and the Stonic are equipped with eight-inch touchscreen units. Both head units have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and both also have Bluetooth, 12-volt accessory outlets, and USB ports. The Stonic EX however has more speakers numbering at six, while the Venue GL only has four.
4. 2021 Hyundai Venue vs Kia Stonic: Engine and Performance
In terms of power output, the Hyundai Venue GL’s 1.6-liter inline-4 gasoline engine can churn out a maximum of 121 horsepower and 151 Nm of torque. The Venue is also a front-wheel-drive vehicle, and it uses a six-speed torque converter type automatic transmission.
On the other side of the coin, the Kia Stonic EX’s 1.4-liter inline-4 gasoline engine can make up to 97 horsepower and 132 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels. Instead of a torque converter AT, the Stonic uses a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT).
To sum it up, the 2021 Hyundai Venue makes more horsepower and torque (121 hp and 151 Nm). As we’ve said before though, the Stonic is lighter. In fact, it is 115 kg lighter than the Venue. That difference in weight might mean that the less powerful Stonic is potentially as agile as the Venue, or even more so.
Underneath, both the Venue and the Stonic uses a MacPherson strut-type front suspension and a torsion beam rear suspension. Both also have disc brakes all-around, as well as a manual parking brake.

For safety, both the Hyundai Venue GL and the Kia Stonic EX come with dual-front airbags, a rear parking camera, anti-lock braking with electronic brake-force distribution, stability control, and ISOFIX. The Stonic EX however has rear parking sensors, hill-start assist while the Venue GL does not. Meanwhile, the Venue GL is equipped with traction control, which the Stonic EX lacks.

As to the comparison itself, these variants of the Stonic and the Venue appear to be on par with each other when it comes to onboard entertainment and comfort.
In terms of power, however, the Venue appears to be the winner. Note though that the Venue GL is heavier than the Stonic EX by 115 kg.
