Currently on its second generation, the 2023 BMW X6 SUV now comes with a facelifted exterior and upgraded tech features. Categorized by the German brand as a Sports Activity Coupe (SAC), it boasts of its unique and dynamic design that merges the sportiness of the X Series aesthetic with the signature sophistication of the brand’s coupes. Extending this distinctive elegance to the interior, it is equipped with a total of three screens linked to the BMW iDrive and ConnectedDrive systems that provide driver assistance and extensive entertainment features. Offered locally is the BMW X6 xDrive30d M Sport variant which is powered by a 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo diesel engine. It comes with the BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system and the BMW EfficientDynamics technology to ensure the SUV’s elevated performance.
Launch
The BMW X6 2023 was first unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in April 2008. Six years after, the second-generation was debuted worldwide. In 2014, the nameplate made its way to Philippine shores through SMC Asia Car Distributors Corporation with only one variant which is the X6 xDrive30d M Sport.
Exterior
The BMW X6 comes with a more dynamic design which blends the signature aesthetic of a BMW X model together with the athletic elegance of the brand’s iconic coupes. It features muscular lines and a bulkier body balanced by a coupe-like roofline and smoother curves. Its tall stance gives the vehicle an advantage in rough road situations as it rides on 19-inch alloy wheels.
The SUV’s front fascia looks similar to that of the X5’s, but larger. It sports the brand’s iconic kidney grille in a chrome finish flanked by a full LED lighting set-up. Locally, the X6 can be had in any of fourteen different colors:
Interior
Living up to the luxury standards of BMW, the X6 boasts of an ample spaced cabin decked in the finest materials. It comes with the ergonomic layout that the German brand is known for, accentuated with chrome trims to elevate the interior ambiance. All seats are wrapped in Dakota leather as standard, with 14-way power adjustability controls on the front seats. Adding to the luxurious atmosphere is a moon roof that gives passengers a panoramic view and natural lighting. With functionality in mind, the X6 features a huge trunk capacity of 580-liters.
Technology & Safety Features
BMW equipped the X6 with a slew of infotainment features starting off with a 10.2-inch touch screen crowning the dashboard. It comes with a touchpad controller and is hooked up to BMW ConnectedDrive and the BMW iDrive systems. These programs enable the passengers to access concierge and driver assistant services, navigation, and the infotainment system. It is capable of connectivity through Apple CarPlay and Bluetooth while audio comes out of a Bang and Olufsen speaker system with 16 speakers. For added convenience on long-haul drives, there are two 9.2-inch screens at the rear for second row passengers.
Some of the standard safety features in the BMW X6 are Electronic Brake Distribution, Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) with Cornering Brake Control, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), and Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), Hill Start Assist, Crash Sensor, Cruise Control, and Rear Parking Sensors. The SUV is also equipped with a keyless entry package complemented by a push start button.
Platform & Chassis
The 5-door SUV’s suspension comes in the form of Double Wishone Coil Spring with Gas Damper and Anti-roll Bar in front and Multi-Link,Coil Spring with Gas Damper and Anti-roll Bar at the rear. Stopping power comes from disc brakes all around.
Engine & Drivetrain
Powering the BMW X6 xDrive30d M Sport is a 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo diesel engine mated to an 8-speed Steptronic sport transmission that sends power to all wheels through the BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system. An advanced feature for this model is the BMW EfficientDynamics technology which provides maximum fuel efficiency without compromising the SUV’s performance. The engine setup can produce 258 hp and 560 Nm of torque.
