The BMW X4 was initially designed as an SUV Coupe oriented towards the younger market looking for their first luxury crossover, according to BMW brand. Currently on its second generation, the nameplate has since received a facelift and upgrades in terms of aesthetic finishes, engineering, and technology. However, it still boasts of its first-class driving dynamics that the X4 has been known for. Included in the current package is the new BMW ConnectedDrive system that can be accessed through a fully-digital instrument panel and infotainment system. Locally, only one variant is offered which is the BMW X4 XDrive20d M Sport. It is powered by a 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo diesel engine coupled with the xDrive all-wheel drive system.
Launch
The BMW X4 was first introduced in March 2014 together with the third-generation X3 at the 5th CAMPI Philippine International Motor Show. The model currently marketed in the country which is the BMW X4 XDrive20d M Sport was released in 2018.

Exterior
Joining the X Series lineup of BMW, the X4 2023 boasts of a progressive styling with its coupé-like contours and roof line. It follows the German brand’s design philosophy of athletic elegance. Not only is the X4 physically compelling, but its aesthetic features also provide functionality for aerodynamics through BMW’s innovative lightweight construction.
The M Sport variant comes with the M Aerodynamics package which includes a front apron, side skirts, and wheel arch trims in body color. Character lines and smooth edges flow from the kidney grille flanked with LED headlights and fog lamps, all the way through the sporty, flat rear with narrow LED rear lights. The tailpipe trim in high-gloss chrome adds to the sporty elegance of the crossover that rides on 19-inch M light alloy wheels.
Interior
Its sporty yet refined aesthetics extends to the generously spaced cabin that is fully-decked in premium materials. The driver and front passenger get sport seats upholstered in a fabric and leather combination, 'Vernasca' Black, with contrast stitching in blue or red. It complements the exclusive interior trim finishers in Aluminium Dark Rhombicle with Pearl Chrome accents. To top things off is the ambient lighting package that elevates the comfort level in the cabin.
On the dashboard of the X4 is a 5.7-inch instrument cluster coupled with the M leather steering wheel with multifunction controls.
Technology & Safety Features
The 2023 BMW X4 is equipped with a wide range of tech and safety features starting with the BMW Live Cockpit crowned by an 8.8-inch touchscreen display. It is hooked to the BMW ConnectedDrive system which provides the driver with easy access to entertainment settings, safety features, and navigation. Audio comes out of a Harman Kardon Surround Sound System.
Road experience is made more comfortable through BMW-engineered safety features furnished in the X4. The M Sport variant includes Cruise Control with braking function, Electronic Brake Distribution, Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), Performance control, Dynamic stability control, and Hill descent control.
Platform & Chassis
The 4-door, 5-seater premium crossover is equipped with Independent McPherson Strut suspension in front and independent multi-link suspension at the rear. Stopping power comes from disc brakes all around. However, for the M Sport package, there is an option to upgrade the suspension and braking system to M Sport brakes and M Sport suspension.
Engine & Drivetrain
Under the hood of the BMW X4 XDrive20d M Sport is a 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo 4-cylinder diesel engine attached to an 8-speed Steptronic Automatic Transmission that sends power to all wheels through the BMW xDrive all-wheel drive system. The engine and drivetrain set-up enables fuel efficiency at maximum performance, powering out up to 190 hp and 400 Nm of torque.
