As the crossover market keeps on growing in popularity, Nissan Philippines, Inc. (NPI) is strategically re-entering the segment with the 2023 Kicks. It has officially taken the subcompact crossover seat of the Nissan Juke which had a 6-year run in the Philippine market.
2023 Nissan Kicks
The 2023 Nissan Kicks is one model to watch out for as it brings a unique powertrain setup called the e-Power. It appears to also come with characteristics and pricing that can make the subcompact crossover stand out in the competition. What are these features? Read on to find out more about the all-new model.
Exterior
The all-new Nissan Kicks comes with a sharp crossover styling that features the brand’s signature V-Motion grille upfront. It spans 4,300mm in length, 1,960mm in width, and 1,615mm in height, along a wheelbase and ground clearance rated at 2,620mm and 180mm, respectively.
A new contender in the small crossover arena
Standard exterior bits on the new subcompact crossover are full LED headlights, LED daytime running lights (DRLs), LED signature taillights, body-colored side mirrors with auto-fold and power adjust functions, and roof rails. In addition, a set of 17-inch alloy wheels with a 5-spoke design is fitted on the sides.
Interior
Inside, the cabin has a dark theme with a light-colored headliner. Zero gravity seats for the driver and front passenger come standard, but only the top-spec VL benefit from genuine leather seat materials with double stitching. The dash, center console armrest, and steering wheel are also available with leather treatment.
One straightforward cabin layout
Modern interior amenities can be found in the crossover including an electronic parking brake with auto hold, type A and C USB ports located behind the console, and an electronic gear selector finished in black and silver. An EV mode switch is also placed by the gear selector which we will talk more about in a second.
Tech & Safety
On the center console lies an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This is equipped only in the mid-spec VE and VL, with the latter featuring six speakers. It is complemented by a standard 7-inch digital instrument gauge cluster with a battery charge display.
It bridges Filipinos to electrification
The brand’s advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) called Intelligent Mobility is made available for the VE and VL trims, offering Intelligent Forward Collision Warning (IFCW), Intelligent Emergency Braking (IEB), Driver Attention Alert (DAA), and Hill Start Assist (HSA). But only the flagship Kicks variant (VL trim) gets Intelligent Around View Monitor (IAVM) with Moving Object Detection (MOD).
Engine & Drivetrain
As standard, the Nissan Kicks has the e-Power technology that comprises an electric motor, a lithium-ion battery, and a 1.2-liter 3-cylinder gasoline engine. The total power output is rated at 134 horsepower and 280 Nm of torque. This power is sent exclusively to the front wheels via a single-speed gear reduction transmission.
This crossover boasts its e-Power tech
Unlike conventional hybrids, the combustion engine in the Kicks isn’t connected to the wheels. It only charges the battery, while the electric motor propels the vehicle. As such, it can go full EV mode with a flick of the switch on the center console. An e-Pedal step also comes standard which helps the car with its regenerative braking function.
