MG Philippines, under the management of SAIC Motor Philippines, has officially launched the all-new MG 4 electric vehicle (EV) hatchback and the MG Marvel R crossover EV for the local market.
2024 MG 4 EV
These are the brand’s first-ever fully electric models for the Philippines and so, they represent a huge step towards sustainable mobility for the company. The best part is, that the MG 4 is now counted as one of the most affordable EVs thanks to its Php 1,468,888 starting price. This undercuts plenty of its rivals, even other more widely accepted internal combustion competitors sold locally right now.

So what do these two EVs provide to prospective buyers? Let’s take a closer look at their specs to find out.
2024 MG 4 EV
Exterior
Typical of modern EVs, the MG 4 sports a hyper-modern exterior with a sharp-nosed front fascia and a closed-off grille. This is enhanced by a pair of striking LED headlamps. Its side portion then shows off the car’s low athletic stance coupled with a tasteful amount of sharp character lines. The rear then gets a full-width LED lightbar and a beefy faux diffuser.

Of note, there are two different MG 4 trims, the top-spec Lux and the Standard (STD) base model. The Lux version gets more visual flair compared to the STD. Specifically, it gets an eye-catching pair of twin roof-mounted spoilers, and a larger set of 18-inch aero wheels. In comparison, the STD does have a smaller ducktail spoiler as well as a set of 17-inch wheels.

Size-wise, the MG 4 EV is 4,287mm long, 1,836mm wide, and 1,504mm tall. It also has a wheelbase length of 2,705mm.
Interior
Inside, the all-new EV hatch can comfortably seat up to five occupants. It has a minimalist-looking flat dashboard with a floating-type center console. Comfort is provided by features such as six-way power-adjustable front seats, a filtered automatic climate control system, a 60:40 split folding rear seat, and plenty of soft-touch leather and fabric interior surfaces.

When it comes to cargo, the MG 4’s trunk can swallow up to 1,165 liters with the second row folded down. Its default trunk space meanwhile, sits at 350 liters.
Tech & Safety
For entertainment, this fully electric hatch uses a 10.25-inch touchscreen. It is positioned just above the floating console, and it comes standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Keeping devices powered up inside the MG 4 is made easy thanks to a wireless charging pad. The driver meanwhile is provided with a seven-inch digital instrument cluster.

Concerning advanced driving assist features, this MG EV gets adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, lane keep assist, etc. These then work in conjunction with the hatchback’s six airbags, anti-lock braking, tire pressure monitoring, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and a 360-degree around-view camera (Lux only).
Powertrain
Propelling this EV are two different powertrains. For the STD it gets a motor paired with a 51-kWh battery, which can generate 168 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque. The Lux meanwhile, uses a more powerful 64 kWh battery that produces 203 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque. Both trims assume a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout.

For range, the STD can offer up to 350 km in a single charger. The Lux meanwhile, has up to 435 km of range.
According to MG, the Lux variant can achieve a 0 to 100 km/h time of just 7.1 seconds. Charging the car is also noted to be quick at 10 to 80 percent in just 26 minutes if done via a type-2 DC charger at the maximum 14 kW rate.
Price
Price-wise, the MG 4 EV Standard is priced at Php 1,468,888. The top-spec MG 4 EV Lux meanwhile, retails at Php 1,738,888. The MG 4 EV is packaged with a 5-year bumper-to-bumper warranty and an eight-year EV battery warranty.
2024 MG Marvel R
Exterior
Contrasting the MG 4 is the sleeker but larger Marvel R compact crossover EV. While its hatch gets a sporty exterior, MG’s all-new crossover appears elegant thanks to a sculpted front end equipped with sharp-looking LED daytime running lamps and a pair of angular LED headlamps mounted on either side of its bumper. It also gets some chrome trim just underneath its hood, and on the front bumper as well.

Towards its sides, the Marvel R does get a deep character line running from the front to the rear. It does, however, assume a mostly smooth silhouette contrasted by black plastic claddings. The upper portions of its rear also get curvy lines, but its lower rear portion becomes angular thanks to an LED taillight bar, and sharp details on its rear haunches.

When it comes to size, the Marvel R is 4,674mm long, 1,919mm wide, and 1,618mm in height. It also has a wheelbase spanning 2,804mm. Its sophisticated looks are then tied up with a set of 19-inch alloy wheels. It likewise gets a tiny roof-mounted spoiler and a pair of roof rails.
Interior
Inside, this MG crossover gets a curvy dashboard that’s clad in leather and decorated in chrome trim. It likewise gets leather-clad seating, a front cabin elbow rest, and a 60:40 split folding rear seat.

Its most eye-grabbing interior feature though, is its huge portrait-style center display. It controls the car’s automatic climate control system, and it also serves as the mounting point of the car’s dial-type shifter, driving mode selector, and regenerative braking toggle.
Regarding cargo space, the Marvel R provides a total of 1,396 liters with the rear seats folded down. With the second row deployed, the crossover offers a default cargo space of 357 liters. Apart from that though, this model also has a cargo bin underneath its hood. This “frunk” can hold up to 150 liters of cargo.

Other interior features found inside the MG EV crossover are a sunroof, a power tailgate, a wireless charging pad, LED ambient lighting, power-adjustable front seats with a cooling or heating function, and a sizable 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster.
Tech & Safety
The central touchscreen display mentioned above is a massive 19.3-inch unit made out of Corning Gorilla Glass for extra durability. It gets Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and an eight-piece speaker system.

Like the MG 4 hatch, the Marvel R is fitted with plenty of advanced driver-assistive technologies. This includes adaptive control with traffic jam assistance, automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, a driver monitoring system, lane keep assist, etc.
These are then supported by standard safety bits such as anti-lock braking, stability control, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and a 360-degree view camera, among others.
Powertrain
Propelling the all-new MG crossover EV is a 70 kWh battery paired with two electric motors. At maximum, it can churn out 183 horsepower and 255 Nm of torque. Power is sent to its rear wheels via a two-gear transmission.

This crossover EV has a claimed range of 402 km. And if charged using a type-2 DC charger, its battery levels can go from 5 to 80 percent in just 43 minutes.
Price
For pricing, the Marvel R’s sole variant for the Philippines, the Alpha, is priced at Php 2,588,888. Covered under that price are a 5-year bumper-to-bumper warranty and an eight-year battery warranty.
