As electrification continues to grow in the local market, Lexus Philippines has brought an entry with the introduction of the RZ.
Lexus RZ
The 2023 Lexus RZ is the Japanese luxury automaker’s first pure battery electric vehicle (BEV), underpinned by the same dedicated BEV platform as the Toyota bZ4X and the Subaru Solterra. It is looking to appeal to Filipino car buyers with its electrified powertrain, sharp styling, and wide array of technologies.
Exterior
The brand’s signature spindle grille has been imagined on the Lexus RZ, coming with a grille-less finish as BEVs don’t need as much cooling as internal combustion engine (ICE) cars. It is flanked by a sharp-looking headlight design with L-shaped daytime running lights (DLRs), which flow along the grille shape.
The RZ uses an all-electric powertrain
Not only does the sharp body shape creates a striking look but enhances aerodynamics. With a low drag coefficient of 0.28 Cd, efficiency is said to be improved. As for the wheels, the electrified luxury compact crossover is fitted with a set of 20-inch aluminum wheels in a dark premium metallic finish.
It is built with the Seamless e-Motion design language
Lexus Philippines is offering the RZ with exterior colors including Sonic Quartz, Sonic Chrome, Sonic Iridium, Graphite Black Gloss Flake, Sonic Copper, and Aether Metallic. The last three said colors are available in a two-tone scheme with black.
Interior
Inside, the Lexus RZ exudes a luxurious appeal with its three tri-tone cabin schemes, which are available predominantly in Grayscale, Hazel, and Orage. With an ultra-suede material used, the front occupants get 8-way power-adjustable and ventilated seats, while the second row is a 60:40 folding rear seat.
Interior of the RZ
Other interior amenities include an automatic anti-glare mirror, a wireless charger, multi-color ambient illumination, Lexus Climate Concierge, a panoramic sunroof, automatic dual-zone air conditioning with humidity sensor, a radiant heater, and nanoeX.
Tech & Safety
Housed into the center console is a 14-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also comes with the “Hey Lexus” on-board assistant and a bespoke 10-speaker Mark Levinson Premium Surround Sound system. Another screen fitted into the EV is an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, complemented by a color heads-up display.
The RZ is loaded with onboard tech
In the safety department, the vehicle is equipped with the Lexus Safety System, providing Advanced Driver Assist System (ADAS) system functions such as Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), Pre-Collision System (PCS), and Lane Tracing Assist (DRCC), among others. It also comes with Full Park Assist, which parks the vehicle into an open parking space without any driver’s input.
Powertrain
The DIRECT4 all-wheel-drive system is enabled by the use of a 71.4 kWh lithium-ion battery and a pair of electric motors mounted to the front and rear axles, producing a total power output of 309 horsepower. It can go from zero to 100 km/h in 5.3 seconds, as well as run 470 km on a single charge.
Lexus is bringing to Filipinos the EV driving experience
As for charging, the Lexus EV can be fully charged in approximately 10 hours and 6.5 hours using 7kW and 11kW AC chargers, respectively. For faster charging, a DC charger can fill the EV range in just around 30 minutes.
Price
Lexus Philippines is offering the RZ in the sole 450e variant priced at Php 4,828,000. It also comes with an 8-year battery warranty. The automaker claims that the battery can retain at least 90 percent of its capacity after 10 years of driving.
Note that the initial batch consisting of less than 10 units has already been spoken for. But the company is encouraging interested individuals to check out the model at Lexus Manila or Lexus at Mitsukoshi BGC.
