Hyundai Motor has officially debuted the updated version of the Ioniq 5 electric vehicle (EV). The update comes two years after the original version was first shown off in 2021.

The all-new version which will be rolled out in its home market of South Korea, is said to come with an improved exterior, more practicality, an upgraded safety kit, and better on-road performance.
Apart from the improvements mentioned above, the Korean car brand likewise introduces an all-new variant for the 2024 model year. This is the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N Line and it has several design details that make it stand out as a sportier

Exterior
Up front, the Ioniq 5 EV for 2024 gets a restyled front bumper sporting a refined V-shaped garnish. The LED headlamp clusters retain their square-shaped design, but Hyundai says that the new look makes the EV look much wider than it is.
Towards the news, one can see that it received a set of new aerodynamic wheels. Otherwise, this section of the vehicle retains the same outline and design details as the previous version.
Updated Ioniq 5 from the rear
Over to the rear, the update provides this version of the Ioniq 5 with a redesigned rear bumper. The latter was given a new overall shape, and it now hosts a more eye-catching diffuser. Up top, Hyundai likewise extended its rear spoiler by 50mm for better aerodynamic performance.
Exterior styling on the Ioniq 5 N Line is further pumped up with the addition of several new bits. It gets the same improvements as the regular Ioniq 5, but it sports a more aggressive-looking front and rear equipped with unique bumpers, as well as a pair of flashier side skirts. It also rides on a set of larger 20-inch aluminum wheels.

Size-wise, the EV’s length has grown by 20mm, so it is now 4,655mm in length. Its 1,890mm width, 1,605mm height, and 3,000mm wheelbase, however, remains the same as the pre-update version.
Interior
Step inside the updated Ioniq 5 and one will find that it retains the sleek dashboard and a roomy cabin fit for up to five occupants. It did receive some improvements though, like a new physical button for a few frequently used amenities. According to Hyundai, this includes its ventilated and heated seats, parking assist, and the heated steering wheel.
Likewise switched up is the position of its wireless charging pad. This feature was relocated to a higher point on the center console for better usability.

Other new features on this refreshed model include an intelligent front-lighting system, a remote folding function for the second row, and Hyundai’s Digital Key 2.
Of note, the Digital Key 2 allows one to remotely control several car functions via a smartphone application. It can also turn one’s phone into a secondary car key with the ability to unlock the Ioniq 5’s doors when in close proximity.
The N Line variant, in particular, received unique interior details that spruced up its looks. Specifically, it sports a black-colored headliner, red-colored stitching, bolstered sports seats, and N-Line badges.
Tech & Safety
For safety, the 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Ioniq 5 N Line are both equipped with a total of eight airbags, a stronger body for improved crash safety, and other safety features that you’d expect from a modern vehicle. But to better protect its occupants, its standard safety kit is reinforced by new advanced driver-assist safety features.

Chief among these is a forward, side, and reverse parking collision-avoidance assist. It also received Hyundai’s new Lane Keeping Assist 2 feature which combines the ability of the vehicle’s adaptive cruise control and lane-centering assist. In doing so, the updated Ioniq 5 can provide its users with a semi-autonomous driving experience.
For further benefit to its drivers, the updated EV also gets a hands-on detection feature for its steering wheel, as well as the Hyundai Remote Smart Parking Assist 2. The latter allows a user to engage the car’s automated parking assist feature even while outside the vehicle.
Powertrain
According to Hyundai, the updated Ioniq 5 and the new Ioniq 5 N Line features a larger battery capacity of 84 kWh. The company claims that the larger battery increased the updated Ioniq 5’s overall range.
For now, no exact range and output figures were provided for the updated model, but the Philippine-spec Hyundai Ioniq 5 Long Range trim with its 72.6 kWh battery has a 451-kilometer range on a single charge. The locally available variant can also put out 214 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque.
Hyundai did disclose that the updated version did receive significant improvements to its chassis. It received a new shock absorber and a more rigid cowl crossbar for better ride comfort and less vibrations.
The updated Ioniq 5 gets a larger 84 kWh battery
The Stability and agility of the updated EV were also improved thanks to additional reinforcements on the lower sections of the vehicle. To cut down on noise, the company likewise added more sound insulation around the rear wheel motor.
As a side note, the new Hyundai Ioniq 5 N Line is meant to sit between the regular Ioniq 5 and the performance-oriented Ioniq 5 N. The latter is a no-holds-barred performance car that can output up to 600 hp. The Ioniq 5 N Line version meanwhile, is meant to “meet increased demand for sporty styling, appealing to customers who seek a dynamic driving experience,” says Hyundai.
Hyundai mentioned that it will launch the updated Ioniq 5 and the Ioniq 5 N Line in South Korea this month. Meanwhile, global markets will gradually see the introduction of the improved EV throughout 2024. Hopefully, this includes the Philippine market.
