The sedan gets an almost complete design overhaul inside and out.

Hyundai Motor Company officially debuts the 2024 Sonata at this year’s Seoul Mobility Show.

2024 Hyundai Sonata

The 2024 Hyundai Sonata comes with a mid-cycle refresh for the current eight-generation iteration, adapting the brand’s Sensuous Sportiness design language. It also boasts tech upgrades that make the midsize sedan smarter and more modern.

Exterior

The new Sonata features almost a complete redesign instead of a facelift treatment. The design is guided by the brand’s Sensuous Sportiness, which aims to deliver a futuristic yet sporty appeal. New versions of the other Hyundai sedans such as the Accent and Elantra also get this makeover.

19-inch N-Line alloys

Highlighting the front end is the seamless horizontal daytime running light (DRL), which is complemented by the H-light at the rear. At the sides, the sharp geometric patterns add character to the sedan, along with the stretched hood and a sleek roofline. The more performance-oriented N Line variant gets exclusive 19-inch alloys, a rear spoiler, and dual twin-tip exhausts.

An assertive rear end

The eight exterior colors available in the model include Aero Silver Matte (new), Abyss Black Pearl, Serenity White Pearl, Nocturne Gray Metallic, Transmission Blue Pearl, Biophilic Blue Pearl, Ultimate Red Metallic, and Nocturne Gray Matte.

Interior

The refreshed Sonata’s interior meanwhile, gets several color options including Black, Greige, Camel, and Navy, allowing the Hyundai to cater to the different tastes of discerning buyers. In the Hyundai Sonata N Line variant, the cabin receives a unique color scheme of dark gray and red accents, exuding a sportier appeal.

The sporty aesthetics continue inside

The dashboard has a more straightforward configuration to house the brand’s first curved display. It also has a new 3-spoke steering wheel that departs from the usual design found in other Hyundai models. Behind the wheel is a column-type shift-by-wire controller.

Tech & Safety

As mentioned earlier, the new Sonata is now equipped with the Hyundai’s first curved display, which consists of a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch infotainment system. It is matched with a heads-up display (HUD), providing a modern appeal in the driving experience.

N-Line badge

The safety technologies in the sedan include Highway Driving Assist (HDA), Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control (NSCC), Blind-spot Collision-Avoidance (BCA), Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA), and Safe Exit Warning (SEW), among others. Parking is also made easier with a Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA) and Surround View Monitor (SVM).

Other tech features are an over-the-air software update (OTA) function, Digital Key 2, Built-in Cam 2, a 12-speaker Bose Premium sound system, and ultra-wideband (UWB) protocols on smartphones or smart watches (Android and iOS).

Engine & Powertrain

The Korean automaker offers five engine options in the new Sonata: Gasoline 2.5 Turbo, Gasoline 1.6 Turbo, Gasoline 2.0, Gasoline 2.0 Hybrid, and LPG 2.0. Meanwhile, the N Line is available with Gasoline 2.0, Gasoline 1.6 Turbo, and Gasoline 2.5 Turbo.

The design is guided by Sensuous Sportiness

In addition to the N Line with the Gasoline 2.5 Turbo, this model has additional features that make the driving experience more exciting. These include an active sound design, launch control, N Powershift, and rev-matching.

The pre-order for the new 2024 Hyundai Sonata will begin on April 20. It is expected to be launched in global markets later this year. With the new design and tech the Sonata brings, we can only hope that the Philippines is one of those markets.
