After a long wait since its global debut in 2020, the next-generation Hyundai Tucson has finally arrived in our market.
The 2023 Hyundai Tucson comes in with a unique styling that should draw a lot of attention on Philippine roads. Hyundai Motor Philippines, Inc. (HMPH) is offering the new compact crossover in two variants only, with the 2.0 GLS AT as the entry-level variant and the 2.0 GLS+ AT as the flagship model.
Exterior
Starting with the dimensions, the new Hyundai Tucson is 4,630mm long, 1,865mm wide, and 1,665mm high (including the roof rack). Meanwhile, the wheelbase and ground clearance measure 2,755mm and 181mm, respectively. The body rides on a set of either 18-inch or 19-inch alloy wheels, depending on the variant.
The Korean marque integrated its ‘Parametric Hidden Lights’ styling into the compact crossover which gives it a distinctive look. As standard, the headlamps (with static bending lights), daytime running lights (DRLs), position lamp, and rear combination lamp all get the LED treatment. The all-new Tucson is one of the four vehicles under Hyundai Motor Philippines' revamped model lineup.
Interior
Inside, the cabin is capable of seating up to five passengers. The seats come in leather upholstery as standard, but only the top-of-the-line variant offers a power-adjustable driver seat with power lumbar support. Its 60:40 split rear seats can be remotely folded to free up more space for the cargo area.
Other interior amenities available across the range include a wireless charger, automatic temperature control, sun visors with a mirror and illumination, a center console with cup holders, charging ports, and a mood lamp for a cozier cabin ambiance. It also comes with a power tailgate function for the top-spec trim.
Tech & Safety
Integrated into the center console is an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen that supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. It is connected to a six-speaker system which consists of four speakers on each door and two tweeters that help enhance high-frequency sounds.
All safety bits come standard in the crossover. These include six airbags, an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Downhill Brake Control (DBC), Hill-start Assist Control (HAC), Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), and a rearview monitor with parking guidance dynamic, among others.
Engine & Powertrain
Under the hood, the Hyundai Tucson is available in two engine options. The base variant is powered by a 2.0-liter Smartstream gasoline engine that makes 154 horsepower and 192 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the top-spec variant uses a 2.0-liter Smartstream diesel engine with 183 horsepower and 416 Nm of torque.
The gasoline power unit is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission, while the diesel mill gets an 8-speed automatic transmission that utilizes a shift-by-wire gear selector. If you opt for the Tuscon GLS+, you can benefit from paddle shifters which give you more control over the gear changes.
