The 2023 BMW 3 Series has been released for the Philippine market. It is available locally as the BMW 318i Sport, and it has a retail price of Php 3,790,000.

Sporting a bolder exterior design and more on-board tech, this new model continues the success that the 3 Series has enjoyed in the local market, and in the global market in general. 

So what is it offering to prospective buyers? Let’s check it out in detail to find out. 

Exterior 

Upon viewing the front of the car, one can see that the angularity on the all-new BMW 318i Sport is obviously turned up.  

This is apparent from the lower bumper, which features a large octagonal intake, which is then flanked by slim intakes designed to cool the front brakes.

Just like most BMWs, this new 3 Series version still gets the brand’s signature kidney grille. On either side of this recognizable feature are a pair of new LED cluster headlamps. New on this portion is the sharp, “inverted L” shaped LED daytime running lamps. These then hang just above the main LED headlamps. 

From the side, one can see that the familiar silhouette of the 3 Series is somewhat maintained. Then again, added details like the sharp-cut contours on the lower door enhance this car’s sportiness.  

Its rear end has likewise received plenty of revisions. The rear wheel arches, for instance, are flared to emphasize its width and muscular stance. This pairs well with its slim LED taillights, its sculpted rear diffuser, and a twin tailpipe setup.

On the 318i Sport, additional exterior pieces were made standard. These include the M High-Gloss Shadow line trim around the pillars and windows and the M aerodynamic package. Completing the look of this car is a set of 18-inch M light-alloy wheels.  

Interior 

Step inside the 2023 BMW 318i Sport and you’ll find a cabin that’s reasonably luxurious, but also driver-focused. 

Up to five can ride this sedan, and all are kept cool and comfortable by an automatic triple-zone climate control system. Also present inside the car are leather seats, and plenty of soft-touch surfaces all around.

The driver is then provided with a cockpit that makes use of logically arranged physical controls. The iDrive controller, for instance, is positioned on the center console and is just beside the new gear selector. Likewise, the electronic parking brake and the push-to-start button are neatly placed on this part of the cockpit.  

Tech & Safety 

Dominating the dashboard of the 318i Sport is a curved screen which is comprised of a 12.3-inch driver information display, and a 14.9-inch central touchscreen. Both high-definition screens are seamlessly linked together to form the BMW Live Cockpit Plus.  

For connectivity, the central headunit comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It is then linked to a HiFi speaker system.

Handling occupant safety for the 318i Sport is a number of standard safety features. Among these are an anti-lock braking system, stability control system, ISOFIX child seat mounting, traction control, front and rear parking sensors, dual front airbags, side airbags, head front/rear airbags, etc.  

The likewise gets an adaptive cruise control system and a parking assistant.  

Engine 

Under the hood of the BMW 318i Sport is a 2.0-liter inline-4 turbocharged gasoline engine that is capable of producing up to 156 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque. The engine drives the car’s rear wheels, and power is then managed by an eight-speed Steptronic automatic gearbox. The said gearbox can then be controlled manually using paddle shifters.

Price 

The 2023 BMW 318i Sport, as mentioned above, retails at Php 3,790,000. Note that it also comes with a 5-year BMW comprehensive warranty.
