The Mitsubishi Galant is a mid-size, four-door sedan enjoyed for nine generations. Mitsubishi Motors initially launched it as a compact vehicle but after several facelifts and internal updates, it was offered as a mid-size automobile. During its active years, it is one of the Japanese carmaker’s highly-demanded models selling over 5 million units. It features a subtly-designed and timeless exterior detailed with fine lines and curves. Inside, it offers a roomy exterior equipped with safety and comfort amenities the driver and passengers will adore. The Mitsubishi Galant comes in two trims: the Mitsubishi Galant ES and the Mitsubishi Galant SE. It is offered in Rave Red, Quick Silver, White Pearl, and Kalapana Black.
Launch
The first generation Mitsubishi Galant was launched in December 1969. Back then, it was marketed as the Mitsubishi Colt Galant designed with the “Dynawedge” concept.
Its second generation was introduced in May 1973. Due to its impressive build and performance, it was also sold by American automaker Chrysler as the Dodge Colt in the US and other parts of the world.
Its third generation was released in 1976 and a wagon version was made available in 1977.
Several generations after, the Mitsubishi Galant remained a constant worldwide favorite. It received several distinctions solidifying its unbeatable versatility.
On its ninth and last generation, the Mitsubishi Galant was unveiled at the 2003 New York International Auto Show. It was redesigned with a bigger interior space and a Ralliart Version was made available in 2007.
Exterior
The Mitsubishi Galant measures 4,854mm long, 1,839mm wide, and 1,448mm tall. It features a streamlined body reminiscent of classic cars that exudes a timeless appeal. Highlights in the exterior include a pair of halogen headlamps with auto-off feature, parabolic fog lights, a wide black grille, dual-powered side mirror, body-colored door handles, a glass antenna, a power sunroof in the top variant, satellite antenna for SiriusXM radio, chrome-colored exhaust, and a pair of wide rear lights.
Completing its classic look is a durable set of 16- to 18-inch alloy wheels with full covers.
Interior
The cabin of the Mitsubishi Galant is spacious thanks to its 2,751mm wheelbase. Providing entertainment inside the Mitsubishi Galant is a Rockford Fosgate Acoustic premium audio system paired with eight speakers for the top variant. The base model comes with a Mitsubishi audio system with six speakers.
In terms of safety, the Mitsubishi Galant is equipped with six standard airbags, LATCH system, active stability control, traction control logic, theft-deterrent alarm system, and an anti-lock braking system with electronic brakeforce distribution.
Platform & Chassis
The Mitsubishi Galant utilized the Mitsubishi PS platform. It is fitted with an independent MacPherson strut suspension at the front and an independent multi-link suspension at the rear. Its braking power is assisted by 10.9 ventilated discs at the front and rear.
Engine & Drivetrain
Both variants of the Mitsubishi Galant are powered by a 160 horsepower 2.4-liter inline-four engine equipped with MIVEC technology. They are mated with a four-speed Sportronic transmission.
