The Mazda 3 Sportback 2023 Philippines is the brand’s entry into the compact hatchback segment. Locally, this variant currently has two different variants, there’s the Mazda 3 Sportback Sport 2.0 AT priced at Php 1,495,000, and the Mazda 3 Sportback M Hybrid 2.0 AT, which can be had for Php 1,695,000.
Size-wise, the Mazda 3 has a length of 4,660mm, a width of 1,795mm, and a height of 1,440mm. It also has a wheelbase length of 2,725mm.
Under the hood, the Mazda 3 uses a 2.0-liter inline-4 gasoline engine capable of making up to 152 horsepower and 200 Nm of torque. The hybrid version meanwhile pairs the same combustion engine with an electric motor and it can make up to 162 horsepower and 213 Nm of torque. Both variants then use a six-speed automatic gearbox with paddle shifters.
Locally, the Mazda 3 Sportback competes against the Mercedes-Benz B-Class, Toyota Yaris, Mini 5 Door, and Audi A1.
Launch
As of 2021, Mazda Philippines launched the updated Mazda 3 Sportback. It now uses the new 2.0-liter SkyActiv-G engines, and one variant now features a hybrid powertrain. Speaking of variants, the new ones are dubbed as the Sport and the M Hybrid.

Mazda 3 Sportback Exterior
Following Mazda’s “Kodo” design language, the Sportback of Mazda 3 model dons a minimalist yet premium aesthetic with flowing lines and contours on the body. The prominent mesh-designed front grille is complemented by glaring LED headlamps and halogen running lamps. Both trims then ride on a set of 18-inch alloy wheels.
Mazda 3 Sportback Interior
Mazda Philippines offers the Mazda3 Sportback 2023 with a spacious cabin has a 5-passenger seating capacity with ample legroom and headroom. Specific trims and features differ between the two variant levels although both come in a black interior.
For adjustability, both trims of the Mazda 3 come with electronically adjustable driver's seats.
Of note, the variants of the 3 Sportback has identical specs as the Mazda 3 sedan variants.
Technology & Safety Features
The Mazda3 Sportback comes with a slew of new technology and safety features. Both variants are equipped with rain-sensing wipers, push start and stop button, auto-dimming rearview mirror, front dual-zone automatic climate control, rear ventilation Louvres, and front windshield projected active driving display HUD features as standard. Gauges are displayed through a 7” LCD meter set.
Furthermore, variants now come with a more extensive range of safety features that includes radar cruise control and the I-activesense system. This suite includes blind-spot monitoring with rear-cross traffic alert, lane departure warning with lane keep assist, smart brake support (forward and reverse), and driver attention alert for road hazards.
In terms of infotainment, the Mazda 3 is equipped with Mazda Connect through a 8.8” touch screen monitor. It is capable of Pandora internet radio integration and Bluetooth Hands-Free technology. Audio comes out of a 12-speaker Bose sound system.
Mazda 3 Sportback Platform & Chassis
The five-door hatchback rides on a Mazda B Platform. Suspension comes in the form of front McPherson Strut and rear torsion beam axle. Stopping power comes from ventilated discs in front and solid discs at the rear. All variants also include an electric parking brake with auto brake hold for added safety and convenience.
Engine & Drivetrain
There are two engine options offered by Mazda Philippines. The Mazda3 Sportback Sport variant uses a 2.0-liter SkyActiv-G gasoline engine capable of making up to 152 horsepower and 200 Nm of torque.
The second powertrain for the Mazda 3 Sportback is found on the M Hybrid. It still uses the same 2.0-liter mill as the Mazda 3 Sport Sportback, but it is paired with an integrated starter motor, as well as a 24-volt lithium ion battery. Combined, this system can produce up to 162 horsepower and 213 Nm of torque.
For transmissions, both trims use a six-speed automatic with paddle shifters.
