Toyota Motor Philippines previewed the 2024 Hilux GR Sport, a pickup truck designed to rival the Ford Ranger Raptor. The Japanese car brand gave a sneak peek of the truck during the second leg of the 2023 Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) Vios Cup.
Toyota Philippines said that the 2024 Hilux GR Sport comes with a retail price of Php 2,166,000, which undercuts the next-generation Ranger Raptor’s pricing by Php 178,000. Toyota’s pickup truck also produces more power as compared to the Ranger Raptor.
However, an additional Php 20,000 will be put on top if you want the Toyota Hilux GR Sport to come in Emotional Red exterior paint.
The 2024 Toyota Hilux GR Sport is equipped with a 2.8-liter diesel engine that delivers 223 horsepower and 550 Nm of torque. The engine is then connected to a six-speed automatic transmission that is said to have a sportier tuning along with an expanded lock-up area, resulting in improved acceleration.
To put things into perspective, the next-gen Ford Ranger Raptor’s 2.0-liter bi-turbo diesel engine puts out 207 hp and 500 Nm of torque. This means that the Hilux GR Sport generates 16 hp more and an additional 50 Nm of torque compared to the Ford truck.
The Hilux GR Sport, which will also be available in Australia, features a redesigned wishbone suspension, stiffer coil springs, reinforced rear axle, and disc brakes on all wheels. The Japanese car brand added that the Hilux GR Sport’s monotube shock absorbers deliver increased damping force and better heat-dissipation capacity.
The said updates are complemented by the truck’s wider stance as the Hilux’s front and rear tracks have been increased by 140mm and 155mm, respectively. It also has a set of 17-inch wheels wrapped in 265/65R17 Bridgestone Dueler all-terrain tires.
The Hilux GR Sport’s exterior has an assertive demeanor thanks to the black mesh grille and beefy front bumper. It also comes with prominent fender flares that surely add muscle to the truck’s overall appearance.
Toyota Motor Philippines will be revealing more details about the Hilux GR Sport in the coming days, and reports state that it’s scheduled to make its official launch in the local market later this year.
