The S-Presso, equipped with a five-speed manual transmission, has been one of Suzuki Philippines’ volume sellers during its three-year run in the country. But, its popularity could get a significant boost with the arrival of the S-Presso automatic, a variant that Suzuki fans have reportedly been wishing to be offered locally.
The 2023 Suzuki S-Presso automatic looks almost the same as the S-Presso with a manual transmission. The exterior design is similar to the S-Presso that we’ve grown familiar with. The same story goes when you step inside the S-Presso automatic. But, it received subtle updates that are somehow apt in today’s era.
It gets a new infotainment system that now comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This is a nice addition, especially for those drivers who are Waze-dependent. It’s also a welcome feature for individuals who are fond of using Spotify and other useful apps. Of note, the more expensive Suzuki Celerio doesn’t come with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Suzuki also added an electronic control switch for the side mirror. It has ditched the manual stick adjustment seen on the non-automatic S-Presso trim. But, the rear windows still come with a manual 90s-style roll-down, roll-up operation.
The biggest update is obviously seen in the S-Presso’s transmission. Suzuki’s pint-sized hatchback comes with an Auto Gear Shift (AGS), which is the Japanese car brand’s own technology. The difference between the AGS from a conventional automatic transmission is that it uses an electronic actuator to shift gears. Through this system, the driver no longer needs to manually step on the clutch pedal to change gears.
Aside from the new AGS, the 2023 Suzuki S-Presso automatic comes with an Engine Auto Start Stop (EASS) system. The EASS basically shuts down the engine when you come to a complete stop, which could help you get better fuel economy.
It also has the following safety features: electronic stability program, hill hold control, an anti-lock braking system with electronic brakeforce distribution, dual airbags, and rear parking sensors.
The 2023 Suzuki S-Presso AGS is powered by a 1.0-liter KC10 gasoline engine that delivers 67 hp and 90 Nm of torque. The said power unit is the same as the one fitted in the Celerio.
Suzuki Philippines will officially launch the 2023 S-Presso AGS automatic on May 15. Interested individuals can already reserve a unit. The S-Presso AGS comes with a retail price of Php 660,000.
