Someone transformed the Suzuki Jimny 3-Door into a 6x6 machine

It looks awesome, but there are some caveats.

A Suzuki Jimny owner from the UK has converted his mini off-roader into an imposing 6x6 rig. With the Jimny being popular here in the Philippines, some local fans might find this build interesting.

The said build was posted by a Reddit user named Willg777 on the Jimny subreddit. It is based on a Jimny 3-Door, which he extended to accommodate a third axle. The latter allowed for a third set of wheels. Above the third axle is a small cargo bed, a functional tailgate, and a custom tube sports bar. Overall, it looks like it’s a pretty clean build.

Other than the modifications mentioned above, the rest of the Jimny looks stock. On the Reddit thread where the 6x6 was shown off, the builder also mentioned that he opted to keep its stock 1.5-liter inline-4 gasoline engine.

Interestingly, the builder shared that the additional axle is a “lazy axle.” This means that it doesn’t get power from the Jimny’s 4x4 drive. Initially, he was planning to create a 6x6 system that was similar to the one on the Mercedes AMG G-Wagon 6x6, but he was limited by his budget.

The hardcore Jimny fans on the internet forum social network site mostly had criticisms to share about this wacky 6x6 creation. One user was concerned about the added weight, while another said “That poor engine” implying that its inline-4 will struggle to propel the vehicle.

As a side note, the Philippine-spec versions of the Jimny can produce 101 horsepower and 130 Nm of torque. Its engine is then paired to a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission.

The all-new 2024 Suzuki Jimny 5-Door version has a curb weight of 1,205 kilograms, while the 3-Door is lighter at 1,110 kg. The builder of the 6x6 didn’t share its weight, but suffice it to say, it is certainly heavier compared to the stock model.

For those who want to get behind the wheel of a Suzuki Jimny, note that the Jimny 3-Door in the Philippines starts at Php 1,258,000 while the newer 5-Door version starts at Php 1,558,000.
