The new system is off to a good start.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) brings good news as the pilot run for the Single Ticketing System (STS) didn’t see major issues.

The STS didn't encounter major issues in its pilot run

This is a positive outcome as the new system aims to make apprehensions more convenient for traffic enforcers and Filipino motorists moving forward. The pilot run started on May 2 in Metro Manila cities including Muntinlupa, Parañaque, Quezon City, San Juan, and Valenzuela.

“The STS’s implementation in the five cities where it was launched initially was successful. No major issues, concerns, or complaints have been reported. Our focus now is on some adjustments that must be made in the coming days. So far, we are doing good,” said MMDA Acting Chairman Atty. Don Artes.

The STS is part of the government agency’s campaign to digitalize its operations. Traffic enforcers are given handheld devices, which are used to issue citation tickets to violators. It can automatically generate an electronic temporary operator’s permit (E-TOP) in lieu of physical tickets.

While the report said that there were no major issues, the pilot run did encounter minor ones. Some of these include the traffic enforcers’ unfamiliarity with the system, glitches in uploading of information about violations, and issues activating online payment systems.

“Driver’s licenses are not just confiscated anymore; there is a uniform set of fines imposed for the 20 most common traffic violations in Metro Manila, and there is the option for online payment of fines. We are excited with the development and rolling out of STS to other cities,” said San Juan Mayor and Metro Manila Council (MMC) President Francis Zamora.

The STS is looking promising

Speaking of digitalization, LTO is looking to take it up a notch with the plan of implementing digital or electronic versions of driver’s licenses. LTO said that the digital driver’s license will be accepted as a valid ID for registration renewals and other online transactions. It is also seen to aid the agency in eradicating corruption.
