The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced that the implementation of the Single Ticketing System starts on May 2.

The Single Ticketing System is a go

Under the Single Ticketing System, fines and penalties will be standardized for all cities in the National Capital Region (NCR) and harmonize national and local laws on traffic enforcement.

The system is made possible through a data-sharing agreement between the MMDA, the Land Transportation Office (LTO), and Metro Manila LGUs (Local Government Units). Via this agreement, LGUs will have access to the Land Transportation Management System (LTMS) to enable the Single Ticketing System.

Together with seven LGUs, the government agency will carry out pilot testing of the new system. These LGUs include San Juan, Muntinlupa, Quezon City, Valenzuela, Parañaque, Manila, and Caloocan.

As part of LTO’s initiative to digitalize its operations and to support the Single Ticketing System, apprehending officers will be provided with handheld devices. These allow motorists to settle traffic violations through cashless payment.

Moreover, the use of handheld devices will help minimize corruption and eradicate forms of negotiations between the motorists and the apprehending officer.

“The mayors have shown support and love to Metro Manila by amending our traffic ordinances to create a unified traffic code,” said San Juan City Mayor and MMC President Francis Zamora.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. also welcomed the passing of the Single Ticketing System. His message was delivered by Senior Deputy Executive Secretary Atty. Hubert Guevarra.

“As you spearhead the institutionalization of the single ticketing system in the NCR, make it so that all your efforts will translate to an even more seamless and consistent application of our traffic laws. Let this be a way for all our motorists to become more conscious and respectful of our laws, rules, and regulations,” said Guevarra as he read the President’s message.

MMDA Acting Chairman Atty. Don Artes said that the unified system is historic as it took 28 years before being fully realized.
