MMDA to hold dry run for single ticketing system in April

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said that it will be conducting a dry run for the implementation of the single ticketing system. The agency announced that the dry run will be in the first or second week of April.

The MMDA did not specify the exact start date and duration of the dry run in its recent press statement. Although, MMDA Acting Chairman Atty. Romando Artes shared that seven local government units (LGUs) in Metro Manila have expressed that they are ready and looking forward to the dry run. 

LGUs that stated their readiness for MMDA’s dry run of the single ticketing system in April are the following: San Juan, Muntinlupa, Quezon City, Valenzuela, Parañaque, Manila, and Caloocan.

Of note, the MMDA’s single ticketing system for traffic violations was approved by the Metro Manila Council (MMC), composed of 17 mayors from the National Capital Region (NCR), last February 2023.

Based on MMDA Resolution No. 23-02, the single ticketing system intends to “harmonize the existing national and local laws on traffic enforcement.” This means that all cities within Metro Manila will have a unified or standardized list of traffic violations along with the corresponding fines. 

The MMDA and the Land Transportation Office (LTO) are in charge of setting up an interconnected system that will be connected with the different Metro Manila cities. This is to ensure a seamless implementation of the single ticketing system for traffic violations.

MMDA Acting Chairman Artes saw the need to conduct a dry run to increase public awareness. The MMDA chief also previously said that apprehended motorists who committed a traffic violation can pay the penalty or fine electronically while traffic enforcers will not be allowed to confiscate driver’s licenses.

Apprehended motorists in NCR can settle their traffic violations through Bayad Centers or through mobile apps. MMC President and San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora believes that this will benefit motorists since they will have the option to pay through online channels.  

“The implementation of the single ticketing system will highly benefit our motorists because they have the option to pay thru online channels for their violations,” Zamora said.
