Now that there is a fine line between classic and modern cars, restomods are appreciated more, especially models with rich histories. Prodrive has a new entry in that market with the P25, the English motorsports manufacturing company’s twist on the Subaru Impreza 22B.
Prodrive P25
According to Prodrive, the P25 is its vision of what the two-door Impreza World Rally Car (WRC) launched 25 years ago would have been today. It boasts the latest technologies and materials, as well as a lighter chassis. The name is decided on the number of units that will be produced which is 25.
Peter Stevens, who styled the original Impreza WRC in 1997, joined the development of the P25. He restyled several features of the returning rally car to give it a genuine build. The P25 is fitted with 19-inch Prodrive wheels, improved McPherson strut suspension with Bilstein dampers, and AP Racing brakes.
While Prodrive only revealed the exterior design of the P25, the company did mention that the interior comes with an authentic late 1990s Impreza interior using a combination of leather, Alcantara, and carbon trim. It can seat up to four persons, but an option to remove the rear seats in favor of a safety cage is also available.
Subaru's iconic Impreza 22B returns
The use of the numbers two and five dives down under the hood as the Prodrive P25 is equipped with Subaru’s latest 2.5-liter boxer-4 engine. But Prodrive re-engineered the powertrain to give the vehicle its desired driving characteristics. As a result, the engine is capable of sending 400 horsepower with 600 Nm of torque to all wheels via a 6-speed sequential gearbox.
“The iconic blue Subarus bring back memories of an extraordinary era of the latest WRC and it was the Impreza 22B that brought this rally car performance to the road,” said Prodrive Chairman David Richards.
“By reimagining this car using the latest technologies and materials the Prodrive P25 pays homage to its roots and there will be little else able to match its performance on the open road. I, therefore, believe we have achieved our vision of creating our own modern interpretation of the most iconic Subaru Impreza ever,” added Richards.
Subaru Impreza 22B of today's time
The Prodrive P25 is priced at £ 460,000 (around Php 30.7 million), with first customer deliveries expected to begin later this year. It is unclear whether the P25 will be shipped outside of Europe. But considering that the production models are very limited, Filipino Subie rally fans can instead turn their attention to the recently-launched all-new WRX Sedan.
