Ormoc City recently held its annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony for 2022 together with Nissan Philippines. To pitch in for the event, the Japanese car brand brought the Nissan LEAF to power the said tree. It’s not just any Christmas tree though, as this one in Ormoc is a huge 50-footer made out of large LED flower-shaped pieces.

The LEAF electric car was able to provide power to the LEDs on the tree via its V2X technology, essentially turning the car into a power source. There’s also the fact that the LEAF’s battery has a 40 kWh capacity which means hours of powering the tree. It also gives the Nissan LEAF itself a 311-kilometer range.

Note that Nissan’s visit to Ormoc city is a part of the Blue Switch global initiative that was launched earlier this year. This primarily concerns the brand’s mission of providing great value to customers, and “empowering society through electrified vehicles and technological innovations.”

In the case of Ormoc, the LEAF-powered tree might be able to bring joy and optimism to Ormoc denizens. The said city, after all, is constantly on the path of typhoons. Remember that it was hit really hard by Typhoon Odette back in December 2021.

If you’re sure that the 2022 Nissan LEAF might also be able to electrify your life as your next daily driver, then be aware that its locally available variant is priced at Php 2,798,000.

For that price, buyers get a fully electric powertrain that’s able to make up to 148 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque. As mentioned, it has a 311-kilometer range, which is more than enough for city driving and the occasional trips out of the city.

Nissan’s electrified model also gets the Nissan Intelligent Mobility suite. This collection of driver assistive technologies includes adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree view monitor, a driver alertness monitor, autonomous emergency braking, blind spot warning, lane departure, etc.
