Honda has released a couple of teasers featuring the next-generation Civic Type R. But, the Japanese automaker remains mum, and has yet to share more details about the said car.

To add excitement and anticipation for the all-new Civic Type R’s debut, Honda has confirmed that it will be showcasing its hot hatch at the 2022 Tokyo Auto Salon. Before you get your hopes high, do note that Honda will only be bringing the prototype version of its new hot hatch.
The full reveal is not expected to be in the cards of Honda during the Tokyo Auto Salon, which will be happening from January 14 to 16, 2022. Although, the Japanese car brand previously said that the next-gen Honda Civic Type R is set to debut sometime in 2022. Honda will be showing off the car in “a special camouflage designed exclusively for Type R,” and an “action-packed test driving video” will be shown at the Tokyo Auto Salon.
Speaking of test driving, Honda claims that the upcoming hot hatch model will be the best performing Civic Type R ever. The Japanese automaker has conducted test runs for the new Honda Civic Type R in Nürburgring, and at the Suzuka Circuit in Japan.

During those test runs, Honda did not share enough details in regards to its new hot hatch. The automaker did provide a glimpse of how the all-new Honda Civic Type R could look like as it posted its hot hatch wrapped in red camouflage.
The only visible features from the camouflaged hatch are the similar-looking headlights to the 11th generation Honda Civic. You can also see the blacked-out multi-spoke wheels with red Brembo brake calipers, rear spoiler, and C-shaped rear taillights. The center-mounted triple exhaust is still present in the next-gen Civic Type R but the largest pipe is placed in the center, and the two smaller ones are on the outside.

There are several reports as to what power unit will be fitted on the all-new Honda Civic Type R. But, what’s expected is that it will come with a six-speed manual transmission. Reports also point to the possibility that it will be equipped with the same but upgraded 2.0-liter turbocharged VTEC engine that currently delivers 306 hp and 400 Nm of torque.
The Honda Civic Type R will make an appearance at the 2022 Tokyo Auto Salon alongside the Mitsubishi Ralliart concept, Subaru STI E-RA electric car concept, among others.
