The development of the next-gen Civic Type R continues.

It is no longer a secret that Honda will soon introduce the all-new Civic Type R. The Japanese automaker recently took the new hot hatch to the famous Nürburgring in a red camouflage, teasing its new design cues that are similar to the all-new Honda Civic.

This time, the new Honda Civic Type R was brought to its home race track, the world-famous Suzuka Circuit. It was spotted doing test runs at the 5.8-km racing course where its performance capabilities were witnessed. Honda claims that the upcoming model will be the best performing Civic Type R ever.

But just like at Nürburgring, the hot hatch was still covered in red camouflage at Suzuka Circuit. The only visible features are the headlights similar to the 11th-gen Civic, blacked-out multi-spoke wheels with red Brembo brake calipers which add sportiness, a rear spoiler, triple exhaust setup, and C-shaped rear taillights.

The new hot hatch is in the works

Honda has been mum when it comes to what we can expect for the powertrain. Some reports suggest that the current powertrain will be improved. This means that the all-new Civic Type R could still be powered by the same but tweaked 2.0-liter turbocharged VTEC engine that sends power to the front wheels. Additionally, a manual transmission is reportedly the sole gearbox option.

Only time can tell what Honda intends to achieve for its hot hatch model. With an improved powertrain, one can expect that the upcoming version could potentially best the impressive lap record the outgoing Honda Civic Type R achieved at the Suzuka Circuit. It was hailed as the fastest front-wheel-drive (FWD) ever to run on the Japanese race track.

The all-new Honda Civic Type R will make its global debut in 2022. Following the 11th-gen Civic’s new design, the upcoming hot hatch could sport a more mature look as compared to the outgoing model’s aggressive-looking appearance.
