Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) has officially launched the Montero Sport Black Series. This follows the release of blacked-out versions of the carmaker’s Xpander MPV and Strada Athlete midsize pickup last year.
Even Mitsubishi's midsize SUV now comes in a blacked-out version
“Black symbolizes power, elegance and sophistication,” said MMPC President & CEO Takeshi Hara. “With the addition of the Montero Sport in our Black Series collection, we wish to appeal to a market that intends to project the same characteristics, at the same time give them an SUV that is built to handle anything.”
Slotting between the GLS 2WD AT and the range-topping GT 4WD AT, the Black Series 2WD AT variant brings a number of visual tweaks that distinguish it from the standard Montero Sport. Chief of these is the black grille on the Dynamic Shield fascia, surrounded by LED exterior lighting. This is complemented by a black skid plate on the front bumper.
The black roof and rails are more evident on the White Diamond option
The ebony theme continues topside with blacked-out roof rails. These are accompanied by a black roof, sharkfin antenna, and spoiler on the White Diamond color option, giving a two-tone effect. The rear bumper below the tailgate carries a black rear undergarnish, while blacked-out versions of the Montero Sport’s 18-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels complete the look.
Inside, the Montero Sport Black Series continues to offer adequate space for up to seven occupants plus cargo. The second- and third-row seats can be folded, resulting in a flexible interior configuration for a range of cargo loads. Passengers can breathe easy with the climate control system equipped with Nanoe air purifying system and ion generator.
There are no changes to the Montero Sport Black Edition as far as amenities and powertrain are concerned
A 2.4-liter turbocharged MIVEC diesel engine supplies 179 horsepower and 430 Nm of torque, channeled to the rear wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission. Safety features include seven airbags and anti-lock brakes, along with Forward Collision Mitigation, Adaptive Cruise Control, and an Ultrasonic Misacceleration Mitigation System.
The Mitsubishi Montero Sport Black Series is priced at Php 1,981,000 for the Jet Black Mica version, with an additional Php 15,000 premium for the Diamond White option. Interested buyers can get in touch with any authorized Mitsubishi dealer or visit the MMPC website for more details.
