The brand is taking major steps towards zero-emission mobility.

Following the introduction of the Mercedes-Benz EQS Sedan last year, its SUV version has joined the German marque’s lineup. The new Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV shares a lot of similarities as its sedan sibling, with new features that strengthen its 7-seater SUV characteristic.

The EQS SUV is the third model series that uses the Mercedes-Benz Electric Vehicle Architecture (EVA), after the EQS luxury sedan and the EQE executive sedan. It is available in two trim levels, with the base EQS 450 coming in both rear-wheel drive and 4MATIC all-wheel-drive. Meanwhile, the flagship EQS 580 is offered exclusively with an all-wheel drivetrain.

The Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV features a grille-less front fascia with the massive brand logo in the center. It comes with black wheel fenders which add a rugged appeal to the design, paired with the black multi-spoke wheels. This design element continues at the back which sports the full-width taillights.

Interior of the EQS SUV

Inside, a single 56-inch curved glass screen occupies the length of the dashboard. It is operated by the MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience), capable of providing suggestions for various infotainment, comfort, and vehicle functions. Further enhancing the system is the use of a Dolby Atmos sound system which creates a 360-degree experience.

The EQS 450+’s rear-wheel-drive (RWD) system utilizes a rear-axle motor that makes 355 horsepower and 568 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the EQS 580 4MATIC, along with a front axle motor, has a combined power output of 536 horsepower and 858 Nm of torque. Moreover, the 4MATIC features an ‘OFFROAD’ driving mode.

The German automaker is one step closer to its electrification vision

Mercedes-Benz claims that its new electric SUV’s RWD trim has a range of 536 km to 660 km, while the AWD trims can deliver 507 km to 613 km. As part of the brand’s zero-emission mobility vision named Ambition 2039, the new vehicle’s CO2 emissions are rated at 0 g/km.

No official pricing has been disclosed by Mercedes-Benz as of this writing. It will go on sale in North America later this year, and will go up against the likes of the BMW iX and Tesla Model X.
