Like many car manufacturers around the world, the Germany-based Mercedes-Benz is also planning to launch its own lineup of future electric models. To give the world a taste of this, the said marque showed off the interior of the EQS SUV, which we can see from the pictures below is equipped with a massive 12.3-inch headunit that can be used to view videos.
Besides being heavy on tech, it looks really luxurious
Sure, the perforated and quilted seats look comfy, and the wood trim feels fancy, but the highlight of the car interior in question is undoubtedly the huge 12.3-inch headunit. To provide high-quality audio, the headunit is linked to a Dolby Atmos system. This provides a high degree of control over sound mixing, and one can even isolate specific elements of a song (vocals, drums, etc.) into specific speakers within the car.
The said touchscreen then blends together with the vehicle’s equally large digital gauge cluster and display screen positioned in front of the passenger. Together, these three make up a 56-inch curved screen spanning the entire length of the dashboard. It is seamless, and it perfectly blends with the interior shape and design of the car.
Also, the EQS will come with an optional third row
These contrasts the often-minimalist interiors of a typical electric vehicle. In fact, Mercedes gave the upcoming EQS a rather luxurious arrangement. And as far as first impressions go, it seemingly blends the abundance of old-school luxury cars with high-tech bits.
For that matter, the brand mixed together some traditional materials like magnolia wood, stainless steel and real leather, together with newer high tech and sustainable materials.
While the potential entertainment factor provided by the 12.3-inch touchscreen is great, Mercedes-Benz also made great care that it won’t distract the driver. To do this, the system uses cameras to detect where the diver is looking. If the driver turns his/her head to view the display, it will automatically dim itself.
The pre-production EQS being tested in cold weather conditions
We also see from the pictures that despite its girth, the screen doesn’t actually impede the driver’s line of sight.
