Makati City will be strictly implementing the number coding scheme until April 13 (Holy Wednesday). This means that the city of Makati is not included in the number coding suspension announced by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), which lifted the said scheme this Holy Week.
Through its official Facebook page, Makati City confirmed that the number coding scheme is not lifted on April 12 and 13. The number coding will be suspended in Makati on April 14 (Maundy Thursday) and April 15 (Good Friday), dates that are declared holidays. Of note, the number coding is automatically lifted on weekends and holidays.
Makati City clarified that senior citizens with a Blu Card are exempted from the regular number coding scheme. This includes both driving and passenger Blu Card holders.
Makati City has also previously said that persons with disability (PWD) with valid PWD ID are exempted from the number coding scheme. Moreover, as stated in the Makati Traffic Code, the exemption covers official functions and medical emergencies.
The number coding in Makati City is different from the coding hours set by the MMDA, which is currently 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Motorists should take note that Makati is implementing the number coding from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Meanwhile, the MMDA decided to suspend the number coding this Holy Week to give motorists the chance to travel to their respective provinces earlier.
“We are suspending the number coding scheme on Tuesday and Wednesday to provide the public unhampered mobility by allowing them to use their vehicles going to the provinces,” MMDA chairman Romando Artes said.
