Makati City has added new response vehicles to its fleet as it received Ioniq 5 electric vehicle (EV) units from Hyundai Motor Philipines Inc. (HMPH).

The local government of Makati gets five Standard Range units of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV, finished in Phantom Black Pearl. The said Ioniq 5 EVs will be deployed as response vehicles in keeping and ensuring the safety of the Makatizens.
Hyundai Motor Group (HMG) executives graced the handover ceremony held at the Makati City Hall’s open grounds. HMG Strategy Planning Division Executive Vice President Dongwook Kim and HMG Policy Coordination Office Vice President for Hydrogen and EV Business Yongtae Kim were present during the ceremony.
Hyundai Philippines President Dong Wook Lee was also present during the handover ceremony along with other local Hyundai executives. Moreover, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Philippines Sang-hwa Lee also graced the event.

In attendance for Makati City were its elected officials and members, headed by Mayor Mar-len Abigail "Abby" Binay, Vice Mayor Monique Yazmin María "Nik" Lagdameo, First Congressional District Representative Romulo “Kid” Peña, and Second Congressional District Representative, Luis Campos, among others.
HMPH President Lee said that the Ioniq 5 EV showcases the company’s technology and innovation, and it has captured people’s hearts all over the world.
“The IONIQ 5 exemplifies the essence of Hyundai Motor Group’s technology and innovation. As proven by the World Car of the Year several times, capturing people’s heart all over the world,” Lee said.

“Undoubtedly, Makati is the most suitable city in the Philippines to match it. Today, we are planting the seed of sustainability. We will be one with your commitment in uplifting the lives of Makatizens,” Lee added.
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 has several awards under its belt–among those is the World Car of the Year accolade, which the Ioniq 5 clinched last 2022. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV also won in the 2022 German Car of the Year’s New Energy category and was also the recipient of the 2023 Best Electric Vehicle in the United States.
Since 2016, Makati City has aimed to become a model city built upon sustainable and resilient communities. Just recently, Makati was recognized as the sole finalist, not just from the country but also Asia Pacific, at the prestigious 2023 World Smart Cities Awards.
Handover ceremony
HMPH added that EV chargers will be installed at the Makati City Hall as well as in Barangay Halls in Palanan and Guadalupe Viejo.
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV is currently being offered in the Philippines in two variants, Standard Range (Php 3,068,000) and Long Range (Php 3,698,000).
The Standard Range variant is equipped with a 58 kWh battery that has a range of 384 kilometers on a single charge. The Long Range trim, on the other hand, has a 73 kWh battery that has a range of 451 km.
EV chargers will be installed at the Makati City Hall as well as in Brgy. Palanan and Guadalupe Viejo
Both Hyundai Ioniq 5 variants come with a 5-year or 200,000-km vehicle warranty, 8-year or 160,000-km battery warranty, and free Preventive Maintenance Service (PMS) for 5 years or 75,000-km, whichever comes first. Along with these, is the free installation of a 7.4KWh AC wall charger.
