The entire project is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Almost four years after it first broke ground, the Lawton Avenue widening project will open the second upgraded segment to the public, part of the EDSA decongestion program.

The Lawton Avenue widening project currently has one phase completed last year

In a video clip uploaded to his Facebook page, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar touted the benefits of the project, which aims to reduce travel time between Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and Bonifacio Global City (BGC) in Taguig to 15 minutes.

Kung dati po yung Lawton ay four lanes, magiging six lanes na yung lapad ng kalsada, at ang haba po ay three kilometers,” he said. (If Lawton Avenue only had four lanes before, the road will now be six lanes wide, with a length of three kilometers)

Villar adds that motorists will be able to use the upgraded roadway as an alternative to EDSA in going to nearby districts such as Makati.

Undertaken at a cost of Php 458 million, the Lawton Avenue widening project commenced in October 2017, with the first 1.3-kilometer phase spanning 5th Avenue and Bayani Road completed in November 2020.

Phase 2 of the project is currently 70.54 percent complete, while Phase 3 from the Philippine Navy’s Taguig Naval Station to Pasong Tamo Extension is already at 26.54 percent. Villar expressed optimism that the improvements to Lawton Avenue will be done in time for Christmas.

The DPWH wants to finish the project by Christmas this year

Ang target po namin is by September…magkakaroon pa tayo ng additional phase, but definitely by the end of the year matatapos na po yung buong alignment,” Villar stated. (Our target is by September, we will have completed the additional phase, but definitely by the end of the year, the entire road alignment will be finished)

Once completed, the Lawton Avenue project is seen to complement the Ortigas-BGC Link Road in improving access for motorists traveling between Pasig, Mandaluyong, Taguig, and Makati.
