Hyundai continues to be among the car brands that have a nominated vehicle in the World Car Awards. In previous years, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Ioniq 6 showed a strong presence in the said event, each scoring a hat trick of wins.
Now, the Ioniq 5 N aims to keep Hyundai’s winning streak as it is among the top three finalists in the 2024 World Performance Car, which is one of the categories in the World Car Awards. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is competing with the BMW M2 and the BMW XM under the World Performance Car of the Year category.
A jury of more than 100 automotive journalists from 29 countries selected the finalists by secret ballot based on their evaluation of each eligible vehicle. From an initial list of 70 eligible vehicles across all categories, the World Car Awards’ jurors first voted to establish a shortlist of 10 finalists for World Car of the Year and five for each of the other categories, except Design.

After that, the jurors evaluated and scored those finalists on eight separate parameters, based on their own test drive experiences, to determine the top three in the world.
The winners will be announced on March 27 at the 2024 New York International Auto Show.
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is an all-electric performance vehicle that can hold its ground when driven on the race track. It is equipped with a dual-motor AWD (all-wheel-drive) system capable of generating a combined output of 641 horsepower, which is twice more than the most potent non-N Ioniq 5. The Korean automaker’s performance-oriented electric vehicle (EV) is said to have the capability to go from zero to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds.
The Ioniq 5 N is also integrated with N-exclusive driving features–the N Race and the N Drift Optimizer. The N Race gives drivers the choice to prioritize ‘Endurance’ or ‘Sprint.’ The former maximizes range on the racetrack by limiting the peak power, while the latter favors power and produces shorter bursts of full energy. When the N Drift Optimizer is activated, the EV balances multiple vehicle controls to maintain the drift angle.
Will the Ioniq 5 N make its way into the Philippine market? Well, nothing is official as of this writing. However, Hyundai Motor Philippines Inc. president Dongwook Lee hinted that the Ioniq 5 N could be introduced in the country, which is what he revealed during the all-new Santa Fe media preview held last December 2023.
